Any possible reasons for 2A82 (VANOS intake) code, besides solenoid?
Hi all,
Started throwing this code a few weeks ago, with 11-2 maps, v3 canbus, VK catless DPs and Vishnu DCIs. Had the dealer replace the solenoid per this thread on Thursday, and immediately threw the code again going home (obviously with no tune installed anymore). Driving around today, throw it on a regular basis together with 3100 boost deactivation. Currently have no tune installed, and no O2 sims (but, strangely, haven't thrown the catalytic conversion code yet in over 48 hours since the dealer reset the CEL). Would anybody have any idea why I could be throwing this? Of the times I throw it, most of the time it's because of WOT, but I have thrown it once or twice at cruising speed (~80 km/h) on the highway. It does not pop up immediately after WOT, either - perhaps 30secs or so after? Could this be due to dirty DCIs? I haven't cleaned them since last March or so. Any help welcome - got the whole weekend to think about it before I call in on Monday again. Thanks, -pN

+1.
Known issue. Dealership will take care of it quickly and with no fuss. Sometimes it takes two visits as, iirc, the first attempt usually involves just cleaning it. That usuall doesn't work. Second attempt involves replacing it which does the trick. Shiv |

All right, I'll give it another shot with the dealer. Si B 11 02 08 is the one I brought in (I just checked my records, and that's the PDF I ended up printing, which isn't 100% what is on the thread I linked, oops) - and my invoice from the dealer says they replaced it (and I kinda know the SA, he's decent enough to not lie about it esp since I told him to replace it). But I'll go again, let's see what they will do.
I was just worried it could be related to dirty DCIs (insufficient air flow or whatever) or DPs, somehow. Guess not.

Right so, the dealer says that the last time I brought it in, he did the bulletin as directed, i.e. replacement of solenoids and not a cleaning. Now he's kind of hiding behind the mods excuse.
I need a bit of ammunition to work with. Is it in any way possible this is related to lack of O2 sensors (or sims, since no tune is in), dirty intakes, "bad" downpipes, etc. (all points he brought up) - or is this subsystem entirely independent of those? I trust him that he did the solenoid replacement, though, to be fair. [edit] not sure if it helps, but I am running whatever engine software was current as of mid-January 2009, i.e. a year ago (maybe 31.x... not 100% sure though).

I dont know if this may have some validity. Do you have a OCC?? If not your intake valves and ports should be really dirty. Maybe that has something to do with.

What's an OCC?
Went to the dealer today, a senior tech looked at it and said "why am I even looking at this? Obviously the camshafts have to be replaced. Why aren't they following the procedure to remedy this code? Pssh!"

I've had this issue as well. Took it in twice already and they cleaned the soleniods the first time and replaced them the 2nd time but it's still coming up 2A82. Can someone please post SIB 11 02 08 so I can print it out and take it in?

Hang on ... did they replace the camshaft already? Or is this the step after solenoids? They're doing my camshaft next week sometime.

Mine is a 10/07 build and still has it. The service bulletin says it's ALL cars with the N54 engine (as well as N52s and plenty of others, as well). They do the work under warranty. I wouldn't *worry* about it, as it's not like the engine blows up or anything serious like that - it's just an annoyance.
