Some tire size questions? 19" BBS LM-R + Coilovers (now I have Corner Balance q's!)
My current setup is 225/35 front and 255/35 rear. I bought my BBS with tires and coilovers at the same time so I've never changed the tire setup.
The fronts last pretty long, but 4 months ago I bought FK452's and now they are completely bald, like racing slicks almost. My car was going crazy in the rain and I was just thinking there is no way my rears are already worn out.. turns out I was wrong. The tires are the same size as the ones I replaced them with and are evenly bald, all across the tire. Before they were not wearing like that (previous tire was Contisport3). Now my question is do I have any other options for tire size configs that might wear/perform better? I'm not into the "stretched" look.. more for everyday driving and better use overall w/o rubbing. A pic of my ride height:

Some tyres last longer than others. Continentals in general are a longer lasting tyre than say a softer compound Yokohama Advan Sport, all things being equal.
Wearing tyres out in 4months is pretty unusual, do you drive your car overly hard? Have you checked your tyre pressure to ensure they weren't under inflated? It's possible you got a 'dud' set of tyres, where did you get them from and check the build date on the tyres? Different 'widths' don't really affect the amount of tread on the tyre. |

the sizing doesnt really have an effect on the tread life. the tire brand/model does.

Build date is on the sidewall of the tyre, it's a 4digit number (smaller than the tyre size numbers) 3009 = 30th week of 2009 2107 = 21st week of 2007 etc... If you got the tyres 'new' then they should ideally of been manufactured within the last 2years. |

@mbrox: Only # I found similar was 1710.. and I got them new.
@VTEC: I'd estimate around 4k miles.

But seriously.. my commute is bumper to bumper Downtown LA traffic.. then the weekends is usually about 40 miles max of fwy driving to play golf Not sure why they wore out so fast.. but they wore evenly and are both bald.

Try hit up the vendor, they may be aware of a batch of Falkens that wear fast but as a 'consumable item' it's unlikely you'd be eligible for any compensation.

At the end of the day, it still has the same amount of tread, even though there may appear to be more rubber.
You could give it a go, perhaps the wider 265s will wear marginally better as the weight will be distributed over more rubber. But then you don't want to run into issues with scrubbing. Consider changing tyre brands |

Your car is lowered, camber/ride height/toe have been compromised. 4k miles is completely unexceptable unless youre doing burn outs for fun. If you didnt already get an alignment i would have it rechecked.

Thanks guys.. made an appointment to get an alignment (and 4 new tires )
Is a "corner balance" worth it? The guy said they will completely readjust my coilovers to optimum ride height?

Corner balancing is unnecessary for a street driven car.

U sure? Wouldn't it also help tire wear? Everything I've read said it's a good thing to do ONCE if it's a street car.

Proper alignment (especially toe) has more of an impact on tire wear. Also, with corner balancing, there's an aesthetic issue: your ride heights will not be even (each corner will be at a different height).

An alignment is a good idea. However if eveything is in spec it is possible that your bushings are worn causing premature wear. It was a known issue(kinda sorta) with
E36s. The trailing arm bushings would get worn causing extreme wear on rear tires. I could be wrong by saying its the trailing arms but still have the rear suspension componets checked for worn bushings. Your car is fairly new but running coilovers could have prematurely worn them. |
