Coding out headlight checks ( just want to review )
Hello All,
I have been reading a ton of posts/sticky and just want to make sure im not missing anything to fix this issue. To make a long story short I am helping a friend out who bought aftermarket headlights for his halogen equipped 07 E90 without knowing he would need to code his car for them to work, Needless to say since putting them in he has an error and no headlights only fog lights and DRL's. From what I gather we need the following :
Tested ( laptop can talk to car successfully ) Now the only coding we are trying to do for now is fix his headlights ( CODE out Voltage Checks ) From what I gather this is all we need to do. Following coding -Disable Bulb Testing in Headlights NFRM module KALTUEBERWACHUNG_AL to nicht_aktiv (low beam cold) WARMUEBERWACHUNG_AL to nicht_aktiv (low beam warm) KALTUEBERWACHUNG_FL to nicht_aktiv (high beam cold) WARMUEBERWACHUNG_FL to nicht_aktiv (high beam warm) KALTUEBERWACHUNG_BLK_VO to nicht_aktiv (turn signal cold) WARMUEBERWACHUNG_BLK_VO to nicht_aktiv (turn signal warm) KALTUEBERWACHUNG_SL_V_L to nicht_aktiv (parking lamp left cold) WARMUEBERWACHUNG_SL_V_L to nicht_aktiv (parking lamp left warm) KALTUEBERWACHUNG_SL_V_R to nicht_aktiv (parking lamp right cold) WARMUEBERWACHUNG_SL_V_R to nicht_aktiv (parking lamp right warm) FEHLERMELDUNG_CC_SL_V_L to nicht_aktiv (parking lamp left error code) FEHLERMELDUNG_CC_SL_V_R to nicht_aktiv (parking lamp right error code) Can anyone confirm this is all we need to do? I want to do a bunch of other things in the future but that I can learn as I go. Im pretty tech and auto savvy so once I do it a few times im pretty sure it will be a walk in the park. We are gonna attempt this on a 1 hour lunch break at work. Thanks in advance guys, I will be following the .pdf in the sticky and have read and done as much research before posting.

It will be an easy coding job bud dont worry. Make sure to disable the FEHLERMELDUNG_CC etc checks for the other lights as well if possible. Might not be able to depending on your car

Im hoping this is basic, It appears so I just dont know enough. Shouldn't be to hard, Ive datalogged and burned roms in my other car plus I work on computers for a living.. Just not familiar on this platform yet and would hate to make a mistake that could cost alot to fix.

If all of this coding fails I would try going the physical route. I'm not an expert on BMW lighting diagnostics so this is theory but here are my thoughts: the frm measures resistance (or lack of) in a circuit to determine if there is a fault. The resistance of the headlight circuit is different than that of the OEM headlights for one if three reasons: the angel eyes are on the same circuit as the headlights or the wattage of the headlights is different or both. Higher wattage bulbs draw more current (less resistance) while lower wattage bulbs draw less current (more resistance). Angel eyes in parallel with headlights decrease resistance while angel eyes in series with headlights increase resistance and variance between OEM and aftermarket bulb wattage just adds a little more to the equation. If you draw a wiring diagram and post it I could take a look, it might be less of a headache than trying to code out the errors. What you would need to do is place a resistor in the circuit in series or parallel to mimic the OEM circuit or possibly get one of those AE harnesses that keeps them on all the time.

No luck yet, Only got a 30 min window to try today as the weather is kinda crappy in NJ.
INPA Connects then when I try to read the airbag as a test per the .pdf I get the following error : So it appears I either missed a step when setting up my laptop or mis-config'd something.. Its XP ill tripple check and retry when there is better weather. Currently I am reading up to see what maybe wrong.

Here is the cable I am using -
When I plug into the OBD port it lights up, Im assuming the issue is on the laptop side of things. Is Windows 7 32bit preferred over Windows XP or is it irrelevant?

I think your software is old, you have to update it, I can help you, PM me.
INPA and rest of softwares work on Windows 7, even on 64 bit version. |

I've coded my car MANY times + many other cars - I have NEVER got the airbag test to work on any of the cars...
No worries, as long as you get the black communication dots in the previous step you're good to go. That airbag test really has nothing to do with whether the car will code or not. So as long as you get the communication dots - just got on ahead with the coding and skip the airbag test
