Yeah looks like BMW settled for $131 mil.

Just a thought--it's like buying tomorrow's Wall St. Journal and buying stocks today. One would think that at this point if you are still waiting for a repair, and your dealership won't give you alternate transportation, you could take the day off from work and rent a car indefinitely, until it adds up to $5,000. It's really weird how things are handled, normally, nobody can predict the future...the only thing for certain is the attorneys' 30% fees....

I think it was so they can be relieved of any and all liability and be released from further claims....looks like the $5k amount is for class representatives, not members...still, one should imho be able to claim a rental car until their car is fixed imho, but ymmv....

What's funny is that I bought my 328 already when recall was exposed. Drove it, modded it, got bored of it, and finally sold it. I came back just out of curiosity to see how is it going and....... they still haven't replaced airbags lol

I can bet, 10 years will pass and there still be some owners waiting for airbags

I just got my airbag done last week! (2008 328i) Woohoo...
I was sent the original letter atleast a year ago, probably longer. Whenever BMW sent letters to all of us... and I just had it done.

I also did a letter a few days after my service was complete for the class action lawsuit. I may or may not sign up. I mean seriously, if there is a settlement, I might get a check for... $0.50 or something, I know it's not all about the money, but perhaps I should look into it more. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to class action lawsuits and how they actually work if I am one of the affected people.

That's crazy, I think the letters went out Feb. 2016? No need to wait, ask your dealership to handle it....

Yeah you don't need the letter to get it done, they never asked to see anything I just called in and asked to schedule an appt. If your car is on the list just keep bugging your local dealer.

I tried that. My closest dealer (Hendricks) basically said I have to wait for the letter; no letter, no replacement.

I may have to check other nearby dealers in the Bay Area...

I received my recall letter earlier this week, so I took my car to the dealership today to get the airbag replaced. Took about 1.5 hours. I'm a DIY guy, and if the work is beyond my know-how, I prefer an indy to the dealership. But there is something nice about sitting in the dealership lounge while your car is being serviced. Only downside is that when I got my car back, both headlights had condensation in them from the complimentary wash. It went away by the time I got home, but it was a little disconcerting as I've never had that problem before. I guess it's hand-washing from here on out...

I just received the letter that they have the airbag. I just installed downpipes. Any idea what I can expect if I take it to the dealership as is ?

I got the letter that parts are available for my 2009 335i. But we have a mechanics strike in the chicagoland area. With no end in sight. I can imagine that when the mechanics get back an appointment is going to take forever to get and they will run out of air bags by then. ugh lol
