Oil Level INACTIVE! water pump runs longer than usual. 2E7C Bit serial data HELPPP
So my oil level was inactive for pretty long still struggling with it. In the beginning I thought I will start with sensor, but new sensor didn't help.
So code is 2E7C : Bit serial data interface, signal. And when I turn off the car water pump runs longer than usual. And me and my mechanic got the diagram so Alternator water pump and oil level run through BSD line. All the lines wires look ok. Except the purple wire that goes to from DME to Alternator is showing 0.0-0.2 voltage, when it suppose to be about 12.3 12.4 VOlts. So we opened the DME PIN 35 that controls oil level looks good. PIN 26 on DME went halfway in, but it's still half out, enough to touch the other pin. And only possibility we thinking that PIN is broken inside the DME probably, I don't know if it's possbile to open the DME apart. Anyways so far that's our guess, did any else face this problem, and how you guys fixed it, I tried to search couldn't really find anything. |

Did you check the grounds points on the valve cover ? You mention you checked the alternator/water pump..How about the IBS sensor ? "Pin 26 went halfway in, but its still half out" You took apart the DME connector ? Were their any other faults
stored ? Any misfire faults stored recently ? |

Hey, im having a very similar problem with my 335 N54, did you ever get your problem resolved? My Oil service warning wont reset using any normal method, and even with a new level sensor my oil level never changes above minimum. My local garage have said they now want to change the IBS sensor, but they still dont know if it'll fix the problem. I have a couple of error codes from INPA, i dont know if they'll help.

I just had this very same error code [plus a few others] and it turned out to be a ground cable that failed... have you checked all of the grounds?

I was having water pump, oil sensor and IBS issues and codes that wouldn't clear after replacing some of them; try disconnecting the data cable going to the alternator and see if they go away.

Thanks man i'll take a look at the weekend and make sure its clean and connected properly. Am i safe to just disconnect it, clean it up, and put it back again without disconnecting the battery?

I would just keep the key far enough away that it doesn't activate anything on the car that's all. Hope you got it resolved by now. |

I haven't resolved this yet, I've been trying to get INPA and ISTA/D working with the car which I've finally done now. I've cleared the other errors and I'm left with these two:
2E7C - BSD data bus communications fault A6CF - AUC Sensor (I know this isn't anything to do with the problem) My oil level sensor still shows 'inactive' when I check the level using the direction indicator stalk. If i check it with the iDrive display it shows the minimum level in an amber color, but it also shows the message 'Please note recalculated service interval' even though this is showing an oil level I don't believe its a true reading. I also still cant reset the oil service reminder warning when starting the car. If I go through the normal reset procedure using the indicator stalk it just doesn't reset (stays at -9000 miles and still red), I've tried many many times. Today I checked the DME unit connections near the pollen filter/windscreen wipers. All seemed good, no contamination and the connections seemed fine (I didn't know how to actually test them anyway) so I just made sure they were connected securely. I put everything back together and its still the same. I know the BSD line connects the alternator, water pump, oil sensor to the DME. Would i be right in thinking everything else on the BSD is working ok? I get water temperature, voltage etc all shown in ISTA so would that be safe to assume? Izero - I'm going to check the ground cable next, but could you just clarify what ground cable it is for me please? I know you said passenger side motor mount, but my car is right hand drive so i just wanted to check. I've got ISTA now so I'm finding many earth/ground cables coming up in the procedure documents. There's even an earth cable for the oil sensor itself, but I'm not yet able to get under the car to check it. Is the ground cable you're talking about the one that grounds the engine and is connected to the exhaust too? How did you find that was the problem on yours, just a guess? Thanks for everyone's help on this, I will be sure to post what the fix was when I finally find it! |

Yes! I finally got it sorted this weekend. After a long time diagnosing this it turned out to be the DME at fault. I found a garage that swapped it and coded it to my original DME for £450. A quarter of the BMW dealer cost!

Was the failed DME a MSD80 or a MSD81?
