Spec 3+ Throwout bearing
I just finished putting on the spec 3+ with M factory flywheel and had a question regarding the throwout bearing. The clutch included the throwout bearing, but I read some threads where people had issues with them. I called spec to ask them if these are common issues, and he assured me the TO bearing was oem, which doesn't seem right since it looks and feels different than stock. Is it worth the extra insurance to buy it from BMW, or should I stop being paranoid and just use the brand new one they sent me. All the threads were old so I don't know if this has changed as the scene has matured. Thanks.

The TOB I recieved from Spec was in fact OEM. No reason to buy anything else. Works perfect.

It was a Sachs, which is the manufacturer of the OE throwout bearing.

That does NOT look OEM. That looks to be the one people were having problems with.

I have the Spec 3+ installed on my car with the billet throwout bearing with 40k miles on it now, it works great.
The key is that the bearing can be installed in two ways, high or low position. When I did the install I read a ton about it and found that the american build of the car needs the high position but the european build of the car needs the low position. Mine is a european build so I made sure to install the throwout bearing so that its in the low position. You'll notice that the billet bearing has one side that sits taller than the other, and it needs to be installed in the same orientation as the stock one when you pulled it out.
