Excessive Oil Consumption

Brought my car in on Tuesday since it was running through a quart of oil every 800 miles. They ran tests on it and determined it was no a leak or sensor, which I told them. They called today and said my car is ready and that this was normal consumption and said there was a document from BMW stating this. I am going to get a copy of the doc today. Anyone else experience this or hear of this? What should I do?

Doesn't sound right to me. Mine only run through a quart after 6000 miles of driving. Take a close look at the doc they give you. And try take it to another dealership.

originally the service consultant said it is normal to top off the oil (1-2 quarts) between oil changes, now she is saying this is normal. Went through 4 quarts this month, will def. look through doc in depth and try to get a second option at another dealership.

got back from the dealership they just gave me the operating procedures dated from 1985, stated that 750 per quart burned is the minimum acceptable level of oil usage. There are no leaks or sensor malfunctions my car is burning 1 qt every 800 miles. This was a general document and didn't address the problem. What should I do to move this issue forward this is not normal wear.

I've heard every 1k miles (I think some other german manufacturers have same stance) was considered normal. You post doesn't mention the number of miles, so what I can tell you from my own experience whith this car and my previous BMW is that excessive consumption stopped at ~15k miles. However I do not have direct injection so others who have 335i may have better info.

The oil has to be going somewhere and that amount seems like a lot. If there are no leaks I would think it is burning it off. Are you getting any smoke? How does the coolant look?

Sorry for reviving this old thread, but i brought my car to the dealer again and they claim to have found a leak. they stated the oil sensor was leaking. they replaced it and i guess we'll see in another couple hundred miles if it was really fixed.
