Having the ConnectedDrive Combox NEXT retrofit done to my e90 soon and was wondering if I would be able to use the BMW Remote android app to unlock and lock the car in the US?

The application details says it will work with cars 2008 and up, but wasn't sure as I have read that it doesn't work for some people.

Does it require the concierge contact or will just the basic BMW Assist safety plan work?

No, it won't work on retrofitted cars. I don't think the E9x even had Remote Services option available from the factory.

Furthermore, all telematics functions won't work anymore on the E9x cars after the end of this year anyway, unless you have a 2012/2013 E92 that's still within the free 4 years of BMW Assist and choose to have BMW retrofit updated cellular technology.

The App Store says that remote unlocking works with the E90 from 2008+.

Furthermore, I am having the cellular retrofit done next week to my 2011 E90 328i. Anybody who is under CPO warranty has BMW assist for the duration of the warranty. Since my contract does not expire until April of 2017 I was eligible for the retrofit.

Does it work with it now? If not, then it's not likely to work after the retrofit.
