Updated headunit, buttons not working

Due to a warranty issue my local dealer had to replace the drives unit of my nav-pro. I now have a different unit with 8 buttons (probably from the my 2008 model)

All is well and works fine again, but according to the dealer I won't be able to use the buttons since they are not originally in my car.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

I would guess this is more a case of the dealer not knowing how to programme it. I think you cold get them working but it may take a retrofit adaption from BMW made available to your dealer before it happens.

That would be cool if the dealer learned how to program the 8 buttons in the center console. I too have an older iDrive and was wondering if the newer MY08 programmable buttons can be added to MY07 vehicle later.

I am sure as more i-drive units are replaced they will add this in their software.

I guessed you need software upgrade.

May I ask what warranty issue it is? I would like to get mine replaced too.

An acquaintance of mine (who really knows BMW's) told me that older cars cannot benefit from the newer style CCC's (with the buttons on the front) as the buttons cannot be programmed even with a vehicle order change. He's tried and was unable to make it work.

A retrofit from BMW is a sure-fire way to make this work...if they ever release one.
