limp mode

Since I got my 335i a couple of years ago I have had the limp mode coming on when I really push my car hard, it only takes a engine stop and restart to sort it out, and I told the dealer about it and they said they had sorted it out by replacing a leaking hose off one of the turbos, I picked my car up yesterday and tested it straight way and surprise surprise the limp mode came straight on as usual when I stamped the accelerator.
Maybe I am pushing my car too hard - the wife says - but arent performance cars supposed to be pushed? Surely this cannot be normal I know the limp mode is about safeguarding the engine but what do you guys think?

What are the temps when your pushing your car?
The car should be able to handle WOT's without going into limp mode..

I still get occasional limps, always have even before and after having pumps replaced. Mine usually do it if I am at low RPM's and I floor it (like in 6th on the interstate). I would say I average a limp mode once every 2-3 months.

Im sorry but that does not sound normal, I am very very heavy with my foot and have never had a random limp, that was not caused by a hpfp failure.

Temp is normal and everything is running fine but when I put it into sport mode and floor it then I know it will happen if I dont ease off on the accelerator to allow the car to change gear (auto obviously). Shouldnt happen this, can be embarrasing when you have blown a porsche cayenne away at the lights then he goes breezing by you at 150kph. I had a chip fitted and thought that was it so took it out but still happening.

It would benefit you a lot to invest in a BT Scan tool or find someone who has one to scan your vehicle for codes. These codes will tell you exactly what your problem is.

Hi,

did you ever get a resolution to this problem?

I'm having the exact same issue. If I'm pushing the car hard, and it's not everytime I push the car hard so I can't reproduce the fault at will.

Just 3 times in the past 3 days, the car goes into limp mode under hard acceleration and a stop/start fixes it.

I have it booked into a dealer next week, someone has previously suggested this may be an injector fault.

Cheers,

Andy.

I'm beginning to suspect that it is another symptom of the fuel pump.

There is another thread on here about misfires and limp modes after a redline shift, and they were resolved once the fuel pump was replaced.

I had mine checked out last week and in the end they replaced the VANOS solenoid.

Originally told me they'd need to car for 2 days but in reality it was sorted in under a day.

A week later, the fault hasn't come back so I'm happy!

I had the exact same issue. I had limp mode show up after hard acceleration! But it was fine after a restart! It happend multiple times so I took it in. They also said it was the VANOS Solinoid and replaced it. It seemed to be fine for several months. Now just the other day I passed a car on the highway and there it is again. I was driving at normal highway speeds (110km/hr) and the temp was 23c. I had only been driving for 20min or so. WTF. But gone again after restart! So ill keep an eye on it I guess. It just Fu%$/ing annoying!
I wonder if it is the same thing again or something new.

yeh vanos most likely... it will progressively get worse till the point where it happens all the time after a strong pull...

also theres i think 2 different sets of vanos (i may be wrong on that) so brandin your other ones may be acting up now

Dude, this has happened to me. Limped only during hard acceleration. Same deal.

Limp --> dealer --> replace hose --> limp --> dealer --> replace charge pipe = fixed.

I had the same problem and they replaced the VANOS solenoid and that did the trick.
