Alpine upgrade, yes or no?
Been looking at doing an alpine upgrade for my car, been quoted £280 all in (including housings)
All I am interested in is the fact that my system won't let me go loud, it never distorts just is quite quiet when a good song plays Is it worth it? mainly asking people who have done it... Thanks! Russ |

I tried the standard system and i have the alpine system.
From what i remembered i think the standard were like a handheld radio( flat and crap) then when i tested alpine system it felt like i was in the 4.1 system more base and clarity. if you are thinking or turning it to max volume and playing some chav gangster song then forget it.

Yea the current sound just isn't there, it's very lacking in umph (excuse my very non-technical terms) Just to confirm I don't wish to play chav gangster songs |

If you are looking at a great oem system without the cost(especially if you're getting at that price )then its a no brainer as the different is massive!!

At £280 definatly worth it, at £400 not so much so. Mine has been in the car for coming up to a year, started to get random drop outs from the passenger side (volume goes really quite for a few seconds than back to normal).
People seem to have complained about it before, its nothing to do with the wiring and looks like the actual Amp needs replacing. Fitted the kit my self so I cannot see BMW been interested, going to see how much a new Amp from BMW costs tomrrow |

Never heard of Alpine upgrade kits being assigned to individual cars!

Russ,
in simple terms! - DO IT! i got my friends and family from BMW and still paid more than that and fitted it myself and its by far the best most worthwhile mod i have done to the car! at the price you are getting it for! i can pretty much promise you wont find anything better! cos i have looked! i wanted to upgrade further from the Alpine system and 3-way speakers, with appropriate amp sets ups cost anywhere from £600+ which just wasnt worth it for me! at half the price you get an awesome bit of kit, i used the guides from the forum too and it worked a treat! took me 2 evenings to do! i ran mine with a JL 10W7AE last year and it went well perfectly! was really happy with the way it sounded and didnt get drowned out with the base at all! the only reason why i was looking forward to upgrading further was because i am now planning a build with 2 x 10W7AE's and wasnt sure how it would cope! but because of how please i am with it so far i have decided to give it a go and keep it! 100% recommend it!

With alpine kit upgrade, if you want to upgrade your underseats woofers, I've 2 sets (6.5 and 8 inch woofers) up for sale in classified section.

There are better sound systems but come at double the price! OP is getting the alpine for £280, your gladens at £575 That's over double! And you posted that's not inclusive of fitting! For the money! The alpine kit is awesome and from someone who runs it I would definitely recommend! Of you have £6/700+ to spend then your possibilities are quite large as you can go for hertz, gladens etc! But for £300 all in you won't get better
