My New Track Toy - R26.R
Picked her up today from Shakespeare country. I want to say huge thank you to me old mate Matt Oz for putting me in touch with his friend and organising it for me - thanks fella!
Im really chuffed to bits with the R26.R and its even better than i had hoped as a driving experience. Its incredibly comfy, the £7k Sabelt Carbon race seats and harnesses are sublime and I'm also impressed with the torque of the engine, really pulls hard and strong and the sound from inside the cabin is very reminiscent of the CSL, albeit not quite as intoxicating as the induction roar - but the £2,300 Titanium exhaust system is very much worth every penny not just for the weight saving but also for the noise it makes!! Had about 5 cars pull along side me on the way home and give me the nod of approval which again ive only ever had in the CSL and latterly in the R35 GTR. Brakes are phenomenal - the discs and pads have been upgraded by previous owner with the stock Brembo calipers. Overall very happy and literally can't wait for my first track day. Ive been invited to Bedford by new friends from R26.R in Feb so may do that and then i want to start planning the Ring and Spa trips. Have to say i was also very impressed with all the literature Renault supply with the car when you buy one of these brand new - luckily the previous owner kept it all in immaculate condition along with all the history, receipts etc - it came with a huge R26.R presentation box that contains DVD, USB dongle, hard back book, card with free Ring lap (unused!) and a literature pack on the car itself too - all very well thought out plus an official letter stating what number of 230 you car is and details of vehicle - really makes it all feel very special indeed and a nice touch. She has been tucked away in the garage for now - proper pics to follow once ive had chance to mollycoddle her!! Here is the spec: Renault Megane RenaultSport R26.R 1 owner and now me! Number 014 of 230 (apparently only 84 left in UK) Metallic Black with Graphics Package Interlagos Black Alloys Factory Titanium Lightweight Exhaust System Full Roll Cage Sabelt Carbon Race Seats with 6 Point Harnesses Air Con Toyo Proxes R888 Tyres Electric Windows Carbon Bonnet Xenon Automatic Lights Tinted Polycarbonate Rear/Side Windows Red Brembo Calipers with uprated: - Carbone Lorraine RC5+ brake pads 4098f - KTR Black Edition grooved discs - Racing Fluid KTR Hoses Renault Keyless Keycards x2 Aerosol Tyre Inflation Kit Accident and Breakdown Kit Official R26R Case including Book, DVD and a free lap of Nurburgring |

Looks awesome.
I've not been in one, but they are meant to be proper weapons. Congrats. Do you still have the bike, or did that go to make way for this?

Looks rubbish! Ha Ha!
Really glad that you found one that was the correct spec and colour. I'm sure it'll be awesome when you get it on track. The R26R is one of only a handful of cars I can think of that gets universal acclaim. It's a fantastic bit of kit. |

That looks like whole lot of fun Steve - and rather exclusive
Any immediate improvement plans, or is she ready for a good old Hooper hammering?

Thank you. Very true!! They are unbelievable in the dry and up to temp - but they are semi slicks and simply don't work in the wet - will be fun at times im sure!!! Thank you fella - hope all is well with you? Hey big fella - pretty much 10/10 straight out of the box - the brakes have been lightly fettled and ive already discussed some other options with Ring Meister Tony Toni Tone - i may also do a subtle remap and id like to drop the ride height with Intrax if my budget will stretch - other than that its awesome as is!! AND i can't wait to "squeeze" you into the race seats (if Mandy will allow!!) and take you for another lap of the Ring to see if we can match that R35 GTR lap we did!!!! |

Nope, and I've got blisters on the palms of my hands to prove it.

Steve, nice car sounds like you got one in great condition. I have seen a couple on Goodwood track days and I have been impressed. They have the pace on far more exotic machinery and look a great hot hatch.
Look forward to the pics when you get time.

Nice car Steve,
I'll be interested in having a follow of this if we do make it to the Ring at the same time. Will be good to have an experienced driver in a capable fwd car to learn from. Matt |

Didn't know much about these cars in all honesty but you're opening post told me all that I needed to know (and can understand ) .
Does sound like a fun little car and certainly one that would shock a few unfamiliars. Sounds like you've dropped lucky (with Matt's help - forum power ) in finding what sounds like almost the perfect car for you; it's been fettled already with very valuable & beneficial additions and well cared for. Your patience has been rewarded.

If your looking for cheap and friendly trackdays come along to the Renaultsport UK trackdays this year. Myself and a friend have Clio 200's, the trackdays are Renault only, very friendly and pretty good value, the new dates should be out soon including Spa and Nordchliefe ....
Had some fun at Bedford last year, plenty of R26.R, R26, Megane Sport, Clio 182, 197, 200 etc ... |

Thanks guys. Ive already got Bedford booked and I've got my name down for Spa. I will definitely be doing some Ring trips this year too.
