Hello,

I poped a imediate check engine today on way to work, read out to be #2 cylinder misfire.

Anyone know cylinder numbering from front to back?

CYLINDER NUMBERING: N52, N54, N56 – Twin cam, 4 valves per cylinder, produced from mid 2000s to current (US)
Cylinder numbering is from front to rear; 1 at the front and 6 at the rear.
Ignition firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4.
Engines produced through 1995, are generally considered as having one bank (bank-1).* All cylinders are bank-1.
Engines produced from 1996-on are considered to have two banks (bank-1 and bank-2).* Cylinders 1 through 3 are bank-1 and cylinders 4 through 6 are bank-2.

Thanks a lot! I plan on moving #2 coil to #3 clearing codes and seeing if problem moves

Just for informational purpose, Code I believe was P0303, Cylinder 2 misfire.
I swapped coils from 2 to 3 and the problem carried over. So Coil did fail.

06 bmw 330i , 98k miles. Check engine light came on immediately and engine was shaking slightly during driving. Specially at anything over 2k rpm. (I stayed under 2k at all times when I drove back from work) Even after 10 secs the computer already had pending code so swapping coils should be fairly easy troubleshooting method.

nice! hopefully i dont have a coil go out soon
if one does go out, would it be better to replace all of them and keep the used for spares?, or just the bad one?

isnt P0303 mean cylinder 3, the last digit identify the cylinder?

Just replace the bad one. I find coils hardly go out.

I went to Bap Geon, local import auto parts store they stock stuff for bmw's better then napa or autozone and alot cheaper too. My coil for my 330 was 29$ (bosch also), which in my book its pretty reasonable compared to 80$ stealership quoted me for Bosch one.

Now about your comment I wouldn't replace them all because of the cost and how easy it is to troubleshoot but im going to buy another coil to keep in truck incase im on longer road trip and I need to swap coils on side of road.

Like I said I believe it was that, I should have wrote it down. Either way even with cheap autozone reader it will tell you the code and which cylinder is misfiring.

Yeah you are right, I must remember that after I moved coil from 2 to 3.

I dont htink there is a Bap Geon around my place , last time i broke one changing my plugs and had to wait a week for it in the mail

I used the info listed here and was able to identify it was a bad coil! Thanks guys for saving me hundreds of dollars from expensive dealer in town
