Canon S100 - where to buy
We are looking to buy a Canon S100 for my sister. I have seen them significantly cheaper from Digitalrev and Photo direct (ebay).
Digitalrev say they ship from Hong Kong while Photo direct claim they ship from within the UK. Both state they provide a 12 month seller warranty. I understand the camera from these resellers will be an import/non UK model. Has anyone used these retailers? Recommendations for where to source this camera welcomed |

I have bought several lenses from DigitalRev before. Always had absolutely first class service. Shipping takes a while of course.
Never had to return anything or have anything repaired, so can't say what that's like. |

I was the market for buying a decent compact camera and after reading this thread, did some research on the S100. Was very impressed with the reviews and sample pictures people have put on Flickr/Youtube etc so bought one through DigitalRev on Saturday night and it arrived today
Big saving £250 vs £380 on Amazon, for example. . Thanks to the OP for bringing this up. No idea what the pictures are like yet as the battery is currently charging. |

I have had a play around with this camera tonight and although it takes great pictures and the video is fab - it has one major flaw.
When videoing, I noticed a clicking noise on playback. I assumed this could be a fault but after some research it appears this is normal and due to the autofocus. It is pretty bad and here is one of the numerous examples found on Youtube. There is a way around it that that is to put it in Manual Mode and switch it into Manual Focus mode. What a faff! takes away the concept of "point and shoot". I cant stand the rattles in the car so this will drive me mad. |

Mmm - I've just bought an S95 for £200 from Amazon - think I may return it and buy an s100! So if it goes faulty - what do you do with the camera? - Send to Hong Kong?

I'm half considering sending it back and getting something else. But as you say........ Hong Kong. I might found out if they refund the postage for a "faulty" item. Last edited by dopper99; 07-20-2012 at 01:06 PM.. |

Its a neat little camera and she likes it very much, unlike the Panasonic TZ30 I returned to Amazon.
We ordered on Friday and it arrived on Monday. It came with the correct wall plug and all in all I am very pleased with digitalrev. |

Sorry to hi-jack the thread again, but I sent my Canon S100 back to Digitalrev in Hong Kong for a full refund (for reasons mentioned above). Got the refund no problem whatsoever. Communication is brilliant and would very much recommend Digitalrev.

For £200-300 you can now get a micro 4/3 camera like a Olympus E-PL1. They are bulkier than a compact camera but have sensors x3-4 larger and offer picture quality similar to a DSLR

Cheers guys, I'm on the look out for anything other than the S100 I've tried already. Been looking at the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX20 and Panasonic TZ30, but open to any other recommendations. Need good video capability as well as stills.
Will have a look at what you suggested above. |

We thought it didn't live up to the positive reviews in terms of photo and video quality, lower lighting conditions resulted in a lot of noise. It was a bit of a bulk and I didn't think it was that well made.

My reply took forever.
My sister absolutely loves the S100. A very dear friend has also bought the same camera. Both very happy but admittedly neither have used the camera for much videoing. |
