They are almost done testing the new oil cooler they designed and look for it out in a month or two. If this was already posted im sorry guys. |

Funny b/c so does BMW...with a retrofitted oil cooler for Sport Package 335's that didn't have an oem oil cooler (~ pre-March, '07 production) and have overheating issues...at n/c if you complain to BMWNA. All Sport Package 335i's now have an oem additional oil cooler. So, why would anyone purchase an oil cooler from Dinan?
If anything, why not just get an FMIC?

I think that depends on the car. There have been plenty of ppl who have tracked their 335i's and not had overheating problems, especially when they have oem or retrofitted BMW oil coolers.

And why not just get an FMIC? Well, get it, it's definitely a good upgrade, but even if it helps a little, I dont think it is designed to solve the issue.

I've never overheated on track, strictly speaking, but I've definitely hovered within 10 degrees of limping.
I'd rather not run 290 oil temps. I have the BMW oil cooler. If Dinan releases a better one, I'm first in line. |

You may not get limp mode on the track but if the car is pushed on a warm day, 99% of them will get reduced power on high oil/coolant temps. Nohing is more depressing than passing a few cars then after a 3-4 laps having them pass by with the needle sitting at 290 degrees.

I've run nearly a dozen events this year, with ambients up to 100+, at a pace equivalent to instructors in 997s and I haven't yet limped due to heat. But it gets damn close. At 290 oil, I'm still at full power. I've ridden in a steptronic that insta-limped, so I know how drastic the power reduction can be. :sad0147::sad0147: |

Yeah, that thing is frigging huge by comparison to the stock oil cooler. I wonder how it is going to fit. Maybe they use longer or different tubing to relocate it?

I'm going to investigate putting another BMW cooler in the driver's fender well. The key is going to be to make the 2nd cooler run parallel to the 1st, because I imagine a series configuration would result in undesirable pressure drop. |

But on my other slushbox cars, the lower part of the engine coolant radiator is used to cool the ATF. Obviously as part of a separated chamber. This obviously reduced cooling capacity for the engine coolant. |

It'd be sweet if it did fit in the stock location, but that opening isn't that large. Invalidate my skepticism, Dinan engineers!
