Starting a business

Hello all,

I know we have a few business owners on here.

I'm wanting to start one for photography. I have bought and registered a domain and now need to register a business name.

I've just had a look and suspect I need to apply for a Limited Company rather than a Business name. Is that correct?

Have been looking at this - http://www.start.biz/nationwide/ltd_form.php

I was going to use the home address as the Registered Office - is this wise or should I be looking at a Virtual one?

Paul, I'd start off looking at Business Link website http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/home, its very informative and is simple to read.

If you are going it alone then I would suggest you go sole trader first.

PM me if you want any info mate, answers to questions etc

I'd agree with Marcus... Go sole trader! Becoming LTD does have its advantages, but unless you're planning on employing people, or doing something risky, it's not worth the additional costs.

I currently mentor several start-ups, so as Marcus said, if you need anything from me, pop me a PM and I'll get back to you.

As far as the home address thing is concerned, it's up to you. There's nothing really wrong with using it as your registered address. But it sometimes looks more professional from a virtual! My company is registered to my old mans company offices. None of my people work out of there, but it's just a nicer address to put on your letter head!

Cheers chaps - no plans on employing anyone! - That site is a wealth of info. I don't have any startup costs to consider so sole trader sounds right.
