once you have everything inserted correctly then reconnect the B+ plus cable and test the NAV.

As a side note...I could not even separate the fise box and cable. Even after pulling them out and breaking the plastic connector. It's like they fused together... gonna end up being a big issue I bet.
I even had the car shut off during a meth WOT datalog run. 5800 RPM in 4th gear! At night! No signals, no power steering, no power asist brakes. Bad news. |

I was actually in SA today for a company segment kickoff but had to head back to austin to help a customer. I hit SA about twice a month to work out of our corporate headquarters. I'll hit ya up next time I'm down and have more time.

Wow I am so glad I found this thread. I have been having this problem intermittently for the last year and have not been able to trust my car at all. Now the car is doing this much more frequent and I now have a fix that makes sense. Thanks a ton.

Resolved.... But Radio not Working
I just resolved this same issue, however my radio/clock/steering wheel controls are not working. I checked all the fuses & everything seems to be plugged in properly. Any ideas???

nevermind... I just read it in this thread. I was missing the 2 black fuses that say "shunt" on them. Everything works now. This forum is a life/money saver! Can't understand why they charge so much for something I can do myself without any skills.

SHATX - Thank you so much for all your info on this. I unfortunately had a power loss the other day at the gas station with my 5 yr old with me so it was a difficult situation. BMW is asking $1500 for the repair so I am considering having my cousin do this for me.
Do you happen to have the DIY instructions completed? I mainly need info on removing the fuse box and JBE. Also, I'm surprised there is no class action suit on this. THank you again for all your help on this.

I have the same starting problem all of you have experienced with BMW 328xi. First time this problem happened was in July 2011. It won't start and after an hour the car will start. I took the car to my mechanic. I have been going to my reliable mechanic for the past 20 years. He is an Electrical mechanic. He started measuring various voltages and started debugging. He noticed discoloration of the cable from the battery. In the process of debugging he disconnected all the cables, put the back and after a couple of days he couldn't reproduce the problem. The right voltage was coming. For the past year, the car has been running good.
Last week the problem happened again. I read all the postings in this forum. Looks like the battery cable and possibly the fuse box are the culprit here. I actually printed the postings on this thread and gave it to my mechanic this morning. Any help is appreciated. |

HELP in Austin, TX
Hi SHATX,
I am so glad I found this post. My girlfriends BMW has the same symptoms as described by all others: Drove it to/from work yesterday without problems. Go to unlock it this morning and it is dead. Unlock doesn't work with either key fob. I manually unlock door and trunk and but lights/horn/radio do not work. I tried to jump start it per the instruction manual but that did not work either. I removed the glove box and reached behind the fuse box and giggled the wires around. That seemed to have temporarily fixed the issue as the car operates as normal now. I am not very good with fixing these types of things. Are you available to step me through the process? I live near South 1st and 1626 but can meet whereever is most convenient to you. Martin |

Shon - you're a hero now, boy! Congrats on creating this great time- and money-saving fix. Haven't had any problem on my car (E92) yet, but I'll keep this in mind! Would it be a preventative step to check this and tighten the connection if it appears loose in a car with no symptoms?

there is nothing to tighten as the connections is fused to the back of the of the fusebox to distribute the power. the issue is caused by a faulty circuit board in the connection its self. i would not mess with it unless you start having the problem.
