small scratches..
Hi all,
I am a new user of E92. I was driving today and there were a truck right front of my car. Suddenly, my car got hit by a tiny things(I dont know what it it) and get about 3 scratches ( like 0.2~ 0.6 mm). I think its about 0.03~0.12mm deep scratch.. I cant see from just 2~3feet away from the car but if I take a close look, I can see it. What is the best way to get rid of it? Is there any suggestions? Im sure almost everybody had this kinda problem..? right? HELP!!! -j |

any pictures of it? if the scratches are minor enough, Meguiars Scratch X and a buffing machine might help...

Quixx works great for light scratches.

I've used scratch X and it's great. You don't need the "machine" if it isn't through the paint. If it is, your screwed anyway. Just use a cotton towel or microfiber, goober it up, rub like heck for 10 seconds, more goober, etc. Goober is like a toothpaste on your brush amount. If this doesn't work, go to a quality detail shop and they can try to buff it out.

scratch X is great by hand and all, but it's not completely effective. it might start to show again after a few washes.
if your scratches are as deep as you claim, you might want to contact a good detailer and he'll take care of it for you by polishing with a machine. It will take off the clear coat, but it's nothing to worry about. polishing and wetsanding don't take off as much clear coat as you'd think |

Im not too huge on scratchx to be quite honest, im glad it worked for you...but i dont find it works for much. at least, not by hand I use a 3M compound that has a lil more abrasive to it, then go over it with scratchx when im done, LoL...

with my DFT paint gauge I can say the whole BMW E60 paint is about 160-175 um (0.16mm to 0.175 mm). That's primer-paint-clearcoat combine. I know Meg105 can take out about 5-7um and that's agressive on scratches. Do you have any pictures on the scratches? What color of your car, if dark color and the scratch looks white (it's primer so only touch up can fix it). |
