BMS N55 Intake Testing

Just wanted to share some awesome news from BMS on the intake front...

Quote:

We've been kicking around an N55 intake project and decided to strap the car down for a little testing. Our N55 intake design is going to be pretty nifty. 5 minute install/removal, low cost, awesome sound, and the best flow of any N55 intake out there. We reuse the OEM airbox bottom which does a great job of insulating radiant heat and ducting flow and then remove the restrictive part (the lid) allowing our new exposed filter an ample air supply.

The test car is our 135i DCT with Stage2, BMS DP, BMS chargepipe, WW meth (50/50), BMS prototype intake, and 93 octane.

Intake gains at the stock boost levels were non-existent but at higher boost levels there was a small gain. Oddly we saw a higher delta gained on map 2 than on map 3. Perhaps some other contributing factors there. But net/net I'm confident saying we'll be able to deliver 5-10hp gains. That is simply all an aftermarket intake can add to a higher boost N55 at this point. But power gains aside I think many will find this worthwhile for the sound improvement alone.

At the higher boost levels on map 3 we ran in to more transmission slippage. Sigh. But still managed to take the N55 dyno record. I really need to put an intercooler on the car one of these days and go for 400rw.
Will update with more info on pricing an availability when I have it...

Super excited about this!!!

Mike

How about a run on a car in STOCK configuration to see if it loses hp/tq in the normal driving range (1500-4000rpm)?

I'm down for the sound alone, but not if it means the car will feel weaker out of boost/non WOT conditions....

With these dyno results..I may have to get meth earlier than planned. Mike, when do you think I can get my hands on an intake?

I really like the way it reuses the flexible piece of tubing at the end of the intake unlike the afe, if they woulda done this people wouldn't have had to worry about fitting seems like an easy no hassle product, great approach guys sit on the sidelines for a bit let other vendors bust their heads and then deliver based on the other manufacturers flaws....sick

I think it would be a good idea to replace the accordion coupling the intake connects to and replace it with a silicone coupling.

This would help create less turbulence in the intake track.

This is pretty much the same as the AFE Stage 2 intake.

It looks like the AFE would be a bit better since intake box seals against the hood allowing less heat to reach the intake.

Hopefully this intake is half the cost, if not we are better off with the AFE.

But im definitely interested in this as $400+ for an intake that just makes noise is not worth it.
