I ended up buying the Elm327 WIFI Wirless OBD2 Car Diagnostic Reader Scanner Scan Tool for iPhone.
Plugged it into the port, turned on Wi-Fi, connected to the scan tool, and read the fault codes |

I had them scope the intake and they said no signs of carbon build up. Hope they are right and maybe the issue is a vacuum leak or something. |

My car is at the dealer right now for the first time.
injector #2 trouble. The guy tell me they will replace the 3 injectors on the same bank to make sure. BUT... he tell me that my car have a trouble of compression They will investiguate it today but its possible i need a new engine... i have never have a single problem with the car and he pull really hard but now i really suspect the bad reliability of our 335d... My car have 60,000 miles and is covered by to 100,000 miles. No sign of carbon build up and i run that car REALLY hard ALL the time. |

Welcome to the club. Mine is in the dealer torn apart for the same exact thing. See my earlier thread on 'another plagued with soot'

There were speculations by someone in Canada that the problem of soot buildup is unique to the USA because of fuel quality. This post confirm that it is not the case.

So I picked up my car last Friday and found out they needed to replace the EGR valve. They charged me $50 copay since the car is CPO. I told them that the EGR valve is emission related and should be covered under 7 year/70k miles warranty, but the BMW rep told me only certain parts are covered and the EGR valve is not one of them.
