Arrow Upcoming Cadillac ATS aimed squarely at 3-series

from http://www.atsforums.com

GM announced today that it would introduce 25 new models in the next 2 years, including a new Cadillac ATS entry level luxury mid-sized coupe and sports sedan. The ATS is aimed squarely at the BMW 3-series and Audi A4 market. The Cadillac ATS will come in both coupe and sedan form, and in both RWD and AWD configurations. It will be built on GM's alpha platform and expected to have both 4 and 6 cylinder engine options.

A concept ATS was previewed to about 100 members of the public yesterday along with GM's PR team, and it's been described as a baby CTS, about 8 inches shorter in length. The model shown was a two-door coupe with a roof-line closer in shape to the CTS sedan rather than the extreme fastback profile of the CTS coupe. No pictures or renderings have yet been released.

Said GM CEO Fritz Henderson: "We are determined to repeat what CTS has already achieved in design, quality, driving dynamics, performance and fuel economy to grow our presence in this high-volume and highly competitive segment," Henderson said.

If the CTS Coupe had come out this spring (like it was supposed to); I may have bought one instead of my E92.

Sorry GM. You went bankrupt, and lost my sale..

Hahah... No the stock is gone, it's now called Motors Liquidation Company (MTLQQ.PK)
but the company is still operating under bankrupcy protection which means they will be able to restructure most of their debt with very favorable terms.

They already have one of these in Europe, nothing but a more expensive 9-3. I hope they learn their lesson and give us a proper, well performing car that belongs in these times, not another bloody Vectra (Insignia, Lacrosse etc.).

Pardon me if mistaken, but i thought that the Converj was supposed to be the posh Volt.

If they had this model today, and assuming (1) it performs about like the CTS, and (2) the exterior styling isn't as awful as the CTS, then I'd consider it when shopping for a 3 series. The CTS (and CTS-V in particular) is a worthwhile car, I just can't stand the angular styling and over the top bling.

I wouldn't count GM out. They're starting out with the right size platform, RWD, and interesting design. It might not hit BMW levels right away, but it could very well give Infiniti and Lexus a run for their money.

Wow! You guys should get a grip on what is going on the world. GM is out of bankruptcy protection and has been for 2 weeks. Do you read the paper, watch the news or look at the internet?

They'll be back just as soon as Obama deems it politically acceptable to let them fail... Possibly sometime after 2012 - maybe sooner if public pressure over the bailouts becomes more of a liability than the potential loss of union support.

Look for Ch.7 instead of Ch.11.

I'm no fan of GM, but Cadillac is probably their best offerings.. just not my cup of tea. I don't see that people in the BMW market would really be looking at Caddy and vice versa... just different values between them. Kinda reminds me of all the Pontiac commercials, "yeah, I looked at BMW, but Bonneville was the car for me!" yeah right, that happens alot.

But the Caddy will be cheaper...Just like the CTS-V is wayyyy cheaper than the M5. Actually just about every company besides Porsche is cheaper than BMW these days. Even benz redid their pricing so they are actually cheaper than BMW now.

I think it's up to GM, not Obama. If they mess it up again, they're toast.
