ECU flash guys - how many limp modes you got with your tune ?

I am interested how many limp modes 335i owners got with their ECU flash. Don't care about which flash you use ( GIAC, ESS, Evotech, Noelle, Daehler, Schnitzer, Hartge, Hamann, Kelleners, Regelin, etc ).

Codes due to aftermarket DP's or OEM HPFP issuês should not be counted in.

Thank you.

No limp mode with the Evotech flash. Half-engine light went on several times (but ever more rarely these last months), though.

With the ESS flash I got limp mode every time I went WOT, but that's another story.

I once got a gearbox code on a specific file my tuner made. This was prior to when he re-did the gearbox software. I got a red cog and had to pull over and restart the car. Since he found certain torque limiters have never seen the engine check light.

I do a lot of driving and have never had a limp since I had the GIAC flash installed.

I remember one time I was doing some runs with another member that had a JB3 and he had to pull over and do a restart since he got a limp for some reason.

BTW, you should have made the poll so we can see who voted because it would be interesting if a bunch of members with piggies were voting the "more than 10" vote LOL!

i think that most people with piggies tries to run to high/extreme settings/maps when doing pulls than the usually have for standard daily driving , hence the limps.

@enrita: Did you update your DME before flashing? I ask this because here in Europe we usually have newer ISTA/ProgMan versions than in the US, and I don't want to flash mine back to stock when the GIAC stage 2 comes out and then get into trouble because GIAC hasn't yet adapted their flash to such new version. Any thoughts?

Not enrita but I always let the ECU software update to the latest version in advance of a new flash, did it the last past cars and still do so with the 335i. Only good experience here. Worst case the tuning company has to apply their changes to your latest ECU file, which takes a little more time for them but I had no additional costs or downsides up to now.

Cheers,
Eugen

I still have the original DME from the factory, i have refused to update to the laggy one. I drove on laggy car and that was enough for me .
Giac reads your file first and than modify parts of it. They dont replace the whole file. They do it pretty quickly. Took 2 days for them to do my file after reading it.

Ok I see, that makes sense - as I don't have the lag-problem with my MDS81, I'll do just as Eugen and update it before the flash.

However, as I'll be flashing it not where I live but in Paris, it would be quite impractical to wait for two days until they've finished programming. Is there another way they can access my file so I can just have it uploaded once I go to the GIAC distributor in Paris? Or how did you do that in your case?

My GIAC shop is 40 km away from where i live... quite lucky. I guess you will have to talk to the Paris shop which should than ask GIAC if they can fix your file in 1 day . Take 1 hour to read, than they have to send it to the US, i guess they can work on it after 5pm CET time an you could flash the car next day in the morning.

I think that's what I'll do. I'm sure I can work something out with them. However, Austin still has not got back to me regarding my latest PN...he seems to be somewhat busy
