Just changed to 5p's this weekend and the car is now so much better! Haven't seen a downside yet and why on earth do BMW persist with runflats....flawed concept on a sports coupe/car in my opinion.

Just got my 5p's fitted. What a transformation! Had the crapstone rft's. Rears had worn badly, inside edges as per everyone else. Had no traction when a put my foot down......now with the contis! Amazing! So much traction...no traction control light appearing and they haven't even bedded in yet! The crapstones on the front still had 5-6mm after 16K...strange. Inside edges had worn a little.
Ride is smoother...doesn't sound like or make you cringe like something just broke when you go over a bump or ridge in the road.
Car will be awesome once I get my geometry done by "Wheels in Motion" and get my remap by "remapsuk" this month! Can't wait!
Was thinking of selling it a month ago...not now! :-)

If the Michelin PS3 is anything to go by then I'm not expecting much. It appears from reviews of the PS3 it took a step backwards from the PS2 so maybe the guys from Michelin are having a rough period of development.

The PS3 mainly improved the wet handling and didn't really have any advance in dry handling over the PS2, which is why many were disappointed (considering the price tag). With the PSS this seems to be different, though. It will be interesting to see the first real reviews of these, I think.

Unfortunately this is not true, you cannot get the 5P in 225/40/18 size at the moment. I've tried really hard to find them and so have Camskill on my behalf. We both finally called Continental HO in West Drayton and have been told that the 225/40/18 size is not yet released in the UK, and that no decision has yet been made as to whether this size will be made available. Even the 225/40/18 MO version (which I think would have been OK for a BMW) is not available.

Which is a bit of a bummer. My car has the normal 18" staggered M Sport set up which means 225/40/18 on the front and 255/35/18 on the back. Currently running with Bridgestone Potenza RFT's which I plan to ditch in favour of the non-RFT Conti 5P's. I've successfully sourced a pair of 255/35/18 5P's for the rear, but have a problem with the front.

Any advice from anyone?

As I see it my options for the front tyres are:
1) Wait for Conti to release the 5P in the 225/40/18 size (6 months plus?)
2) Get the 5P's in the 235/40/18 size (which is currently available)
3) Get CSC3's in the 225/40/18 size for the front and run 5P's on the rear

I'm thinking that getting the 235/40/18's for the front might be OK. I would have to inform my insurer of course, but my main worry is whether 235mm is just too wide for an 8" rim.

Is that always true? MO tyres can fit bmw? what about winter tyres? I can find some for 225/45/R17 with mercedes fitment, should it be ok to have these tyres?

I'm running the 235/40 R18 5Ps on my 8" rims with no problems. It's only a 10mm difference, so it's really not noticeable, and there's definitely no rubbing of any sort. I'm very happy with them.

Thanks seanblee, that is good news and very helpful. I can only find the 235/40/R18 5P's in the Mercedes (MO) fitting.......is that what you bought?

I assume that one should check with one's insurance company that they have no problems in one fitting a tyre of a size that is not shown in the door panel?

Yup - mine are MO on the front and the rear. It's just a marking to say Mercedes approved the tyre for OE fitment; otherwise, it's the same tyre.

I told my insurance company what I was doing and they were fine with it - they noted it on the policy, but there was no charge.

a chap bought the wrong size and was selling them so i got 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 for 100 each brand new and they grip really well.

Have now had the Conti 5P's on for 500 miles and am very very pleased with them. I've got the standard 18" staggered set up wheels, so I had to go with the 235/40/ R18's on the front, because Continental have not yet introduced the 225/40 size. I'm having no problems with the 235/40's and think they are an improvement over the OEM 225/40's.

The 5P's are every bit as good as E92Fan said they were, and are worlds better than the runflat Bridgestones. Grip is extremely good and predictable in both wet and dry, steering feel is excellent, noise is lower than before, (but not as quiet as the 17" Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics that I fitted to my previous 330i), and traction is really impressive. I think they would be amazing with an LSD, but that is one big expensive step too far for me, and not really necessary for most main road conditions.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I can't seem to find the review for these CS5P vs MPSS.

Can anyone shed some light on how the thread wear ar?? How many K's or miles did u get out of the tires?

I have driven with E92Fan on the 'Ring when his car had the Continental tires (he now would have cup tires) and mine was on Michelin Pilot Super Sport. IMHO they were both more or less equal on the track as far as grip was concerned. I had the impression the Michelin held up a bit better, but maybe that was also due to the fact that I drove slower than E92Fan .

How many km or miles you get out of them depends a lot on your driving style. I have had the Michelin on my car since summer 2011 (i.e. for a bit more than 2 seasons) and they're badly worn now, in particular in the rear. Considering that they went through multiple track days on the 'Ring and quite a bit aggressive driving with that huge torque the engine puts out, they held up very well. I'll replace them with the exact same tires next year (this year I'll keep them on as I will use cup tires for track duty).
