Hi all,

I finally got time to bust out my new porter cable 7424x and get to work. I've read many articles about how to do it, but every one of them is different on how much pressure to use.

So my question is, using orange pad for cutting and white for fine polish, how much pressure should I apply on the polisher?

I'm new at this as well. Same polisher. I'm practicing mostly on my wife's car, but I've tried my hood once: Menzerna Sf4500 on a blue flat pad. Nice polish, but I think I installed some holograms because of my technique more than anything.

Dunno. I've read how a lot of this is an art, and it takes time to get it right. Hence I'm practicing on my wife's car. Boom!

Dave pressure is one of the things in detailing that can take years to perfect, and even then you're looking at every now and then getting a curveball car/paint and having to adjust greatly.

Thus, it's tough to explain the necessary pressure, but if you press a polisher with the pad attached onto a regular bathroom scale, anywhere from 20-25 upwards of 30-35 lbs should be good for correction.

Also keep in mind, while pressure usually results in more cut, you do want to let off a bit throughout the polishing process in order to leave a better finish.
