Question Any idea how to protect your e90 from stone chips?

I live in Australia and still waiting for the delivery of my new 320d.

I am looking for alternatives to protect my new baby from stone chips and bugs damage as my current 3 years old Toyota had quite a few damage from it. Stone chips damage often happen when I travel intercity eg from Brisbane to Sydney.

Current known alternatives:
- Car bra , but it make the car looks super ugly.
- Bonnet protector , is it available as dealer option? never seen a bimmer with one. It also traps leaves.
- Film protector , this sounds promising, Has anyone tried before?

- Any other suggestions?

Film Protector

3rd car (pictures below) with it:
  • Hood (10 inches)
  • Front Bumper
  • Mirrors

The best by far, 3M is excellent; just make sure the installer it experienced and is careful with your car.

you can also search the forum with the word "clear bra", I think you will even have pictures.

Car Bra --> Dust, little stones & other little crap ... ruin your paint slowly but surely.
Bonnet protector, doesn't only trap leaves I leave the rest to your imagination ... but no good.

+1 to the 3M adhesive. This is my 4th car with it dating back to '98. The only thing that is noticeable is the line on the trailing edge of the hood protector which isn't very noticeable as you can see in Norsk's pics. You can see the line in his pic by looking up the hood about 8" behind the roundel.

Would appreciate the info...

Thanks for the info. I am not sure if I can find someone to fit the film protection in Brisbane Australia. Any body know?

Also, I notice that you have your car w/o RFTs. Sure the ride is going to be a lot better, but how do you cope when you have a flat tyre?

I already gave you the info in the thread where you and Picus discussed soft paint. You must have missed my post.

Anyway, I have always gotten it done at European Auto Tinting which is directly behind Weber Motors. I think it's 103A St. European does the tint and hood protector for Southgate and Weber. I got all seven windows tinted (which excludes the windshield) and the hood protector done for $400. They do excellent work. Good luck.

I use the Airman mobility kit from Canadian Tire, but I doubt you can find it in Oz. Continental makes a mobility kit too, which includes a small compressor and latex tire sealent.
