2 questions regarding new CIP updates

I'm takin my pre-Sept E90 to the dealer Monday to get the CIP update (and my DRL's activated cuz I just think the car looks pretty sharp with them, haha) and had just 2 quick questions -

1) How exactly can I be sure that the dealer will be installing the actual latest update? I believe we're on CIP 21 now but I'm not sure as I haven't been keeping up so much with this stuff.

2) What's the average time it's been taking for this update to be installed? I've heard a various range of times so I was just wondering what the average is lookin like.

sorry if this is a glaringly obvious repost and yes I did search before posting!

1) Ask them what version they have on their system

2)Depends on your options in the car and their current software versions but would be many hours to days.

1. I don't know

2. Mine has been with them for 5 days, and it looks it will be another 1-2 days before I get it back. It just depends on how your current version takes it.

Your car would have Progman 20 ( CIP is now called Progman )

Progman 20 came out in December 2005

If my car is arriving in SC in a little over a week, will I have Progman 21 installed? Or do I need to have it dealer installed prior to taking delivery?

No such thing as Progman 21, you mean CIP 21 and it depends when it was built. If there are no campaigns for your car and it has CIP 20.x, they will not upgrade it and, unless something doesn't work and the upgrade will remedy this, you would have to pay for the upgrade.

Actually if you read above there is no such thing as CIP 21

The last CIP was 19, then they changed parts of the system and it became Progman, starting with Progman 20 and now progman 21

The VPC would most probably alrady have loaded it before the car goes to the dealer

Thanks, E90Fleet. Is there any way to verify other than asking the dealer? Will it be noted on the window sticker or anywhere else in the documentation?

They only do updates if there is a campaign. They do not update cars which were mfr'd a few weeks ago just to update.

Recently other members here were informed their cars were being delayed at the US VPC's due to software updates

Yes, there was a campaign from what I was told. Must have been a buggy version that they quickly corrected.

I find it strange that it takes me 5 minutes to update software on my computer but it takes hours to days to update software on a car. Wouldn't it be as simple as uploading the latest software via a cable to the main cpu?
