How to get rid of smell

Hey guys - I took my e92 up to 1000 islands this weekend and parked it about 50 ft from the water. Of course there was a dead fish in the water and I only stayed for a night at the camp and my A/C smells like fish. I blasted the AC and put the windows do for about 30min in my driveway last night and this morning it still smelled inside. Any suggestions?

Grab some Febreeze and mist your carpets. You will also have clean your cabin filter. Lift the hood and undo the plastic cowl, it's right under there, wash the filter and let it dry, Febreeze it and reinstall.

if nothing works you can rent/borrow an ozone machine. Those can get rid of the worst smells.

Odour Neutralizer

PŪRWorld is a deodorizing application; Hydroxyl radicals are among the strongest oxidizing species, even much stronger than chlorine, ozone, and peroxide. They act as very powerful disinfecting agents by oxidizing the cells of microorganisms, causing rupture and leakage of vital composition. They accelerate the breakdown by destroying the molecular bonds. This will help combine the organic gases to form a single molecule that is not harmful to humans thus enhance the air cleaning efficiency.

Symptom that occurs from prolonged exposure to microbes that grow in automobile interiors, the presence of the microbes causes similar reactions as sick building syndrome. Some of the examples of odour molecules are: tobacco odour, formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide, urine odor, gasoline, and many other hydrocarbon molecules in the atmosphere.

Generally speaking, disinfections by titanium oxides are three times stronger than chlorination, and 1.5 times stronger than ozone treatment. PŪRWorld provides photo catalyst surface coating for long-lasting effects of deodorization, sterilization, and anti-soiling purposes. Using specialized spray-coating equipments, a fine mist of photo catalyst can be applied on different types of surface material that guarantees the maximum result – DrivePur Protection Systems

I've seen this recommended for cigarette smoke but should help with your issue as well.

Start car and turn on the A/C full (with recirc on). Spray Febreze into the return ducts and on the carpet under the dash (where the heat outlets are). Let the A/C run for 5 minutes, then shut off car.

so I removed the microfilter, soaked it in water/peroxide and then rinsed with water let dry. Cleaned the whole interior and frebreezed the carpets, left the windows down in the garage and baking sode in the interior. the vents no longer smell musty at all. however I get a small whif of that smell when I walk next to the drivers door? what the heck, I didnt hit anything. The only thing I can think of is during my roadtrip my g/f put a small cooler in the driver's side back seat. When I picked it up a little water leaked onto the seats. I dried them. Could this be the smell? 95% of it is gone, but I'm just anal even if I can barely smell it. I take 2 showers a day so it's not me!!! thoughts?

two showers a day because I need one to wake me up and I sweat after I run.

I brush my teeth twice a day so it's not my breath

My girlfriend plays with my Jimmy so it's not that.
I wear Oldspice, so it's definitely not that.

And I washed my car, so it's not that.

Who knows haha

Exclamation

Okay - so I brought my car into my detailer to see what he could do. He flushed my A/C, shampooed my carpets, steamed and brushed the trunk and interior. The smell is reduced but not gone. So I originally had some water spill in the back drivers side seat. He thinks this is where the smell is coming from because my clip for the babyseat is broken and it's wide open. He put his nose to it and the smell was distinct. Here's the issue, he can't get under the seat!!! How do I get the water dried up? I scheduled an appt with BMW next week, but I know they're going to charge me an arm and a leg. HELP!!!

You or your detailer could always take the seat out. That would give you the most chance of getting rid of the smell, but may not be an easy task.

yea that's what I'm thinking. It's nice and windy here today, I have my car in the drive way with the windows down and seats folded halfway down. Is there a way to disable the trunk light?

Here is a video from BSW showing how to install their speakers. Toward the end it shows how to remove the rear seats in an E92. It looks like they are just sort of snapped in.

One technique I have used in the past with good results on stubborn smells is as follows:
Buy Activated carbon/charcoal at a local pet store aquarium.
Place said charcoal into large surface area tupperware or similar plastic containers.
Leave these bins on the floor of the car or under the seats for a few days (Be sure to cover them when driving to ensure no spillage)
Change as needed

This method works because most odors are a result of bacteria adhering to moisture in the air. The charcoal helps to remove the moisture while simultaneously neutralizing/trapping the attached odor causing bacteria.
I would then follow up with an odor neutralizing spray (fabreeze etc) and leaving the car in the sun with the windows down make sure that all the humidity is evacuated from the interior.

Moisture is the biggest culprit when dealing with stubborn odors.

I put a small fan in the back seat and pointed it in the seatbelt hole where the smell was coming from. Left it for 2 days and the smell was gone. That moisture was staying in there.
