Brake Pads with Low Dust and OEM Stopping Performance

I need a set of brake pads that have LOW DUST but also have within 90% of OEM stopping performance or better. My OEM ones dust like crazyyy (but I've heard the new OEM ones have low dust? Can anyone confirm?)

I was thinking about Axxis Deluxe Pads...what do you think?

don't listen to claims of brake pads not creating much dust. the same was said about cool carbon pads but they dust just as much.

I can tell you this much...My 2011 335i creates a lot less dust than my 2001 325Ci did.

I haven't tried them yet but I'm in the same position you are, and I'm considering going with Akebono ceramics front and rear. Cheap enough and shouldn't dust. Not sure about stopping power, hopefully someone can chime in.

Nice, that's what I want to hear. How about stopping power? Within the OPs 90% threshold?

I have hawk hps ceramic pads on the rear of my car and haven't noticed a difference in performance.

I did notice that they DO dust less. My front brakes get dusty way quicker. And I know the front brakes do most of the braking so they dust faster but when I had OEM pads on the rear, they dusted at the same rate.

The rear now takes a good week or 2 longer for it to look as dirty as the front wheels.

Yes, I have the new (since MY 2010) OEM brake pads on mine. The dust is much, much less than my original '07 pads. (And what dust is there is a light gray, instead of the dark gray/black of the earlier ones - hardly noticeable)

However, the initial bite is not quite the same on the new pads, but overall braking quality/feel falls well within your 90% criteria - the pads are OEM after all.

Thanks dude. Dunno if it helped the OP decide, but it helped me. Akebono Ceramics it is.

Well it's either between Axxis Deluxe Advanced Brake Pads (which I feel like dust a bit more than the Akebono but have better stopping power? complete speculation) or the Akebono. Can't use the same pads a 328 would since I have a 335i so that is why I am wary about the Akebono...need a bit more stopping power.

Do these have to be specifically requested, or are they the only OEM available now?

I had Axxis on my X5, they were great at keeping down dust and retaining braking. I also hear rave reviews about Cool Carbon.

I have Hawk Ceramics, very light dust at 600 city miles. Stopping is fantastic when properly bedded.

ALL BRAKES DUST! Some just less then others, as well as Hawks are kinda light color dust.

I ended up going with the Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic brake pads. Purchased them through Dave @ Zeckhausen racing (he also recommended them for my car). Apparently the pad compound in these pads are the same as the Axxis Deluxe pads (he said the Axxis pads were discontinued in the US and that these pads are the equivalent of them). I got them for $129 for a front and rear set, shipped.

It was kind of an impulse purchase but after researching a bit more on the forums I came to the conclusion that the Akebono Euro pads are not quite as good as OEM, in term of stopping power, but they have the lowest dust of all the pads. The Centric Posi-Quiet have OEM stopping power but dust a tiny bit more than the Akebonos.

What do you guys think?

Hey OP....how do you like those pads that you ended up going with? I'm having the exact same dilemma now. Thanks.

Brakes definitely dust less, I'd say about 50-70% less than stock. I'm not a huge fan of the pedal feel at all, it's kind of mushy and just doesn't feel as powerful as the OEM pads. Stopping power overall seems similar, but the feel is not as nice. I think it's worth it anyway, despite the pedal feel. The OEM pads I had dusted like no tomorrow and the dust was really caustic. I might have gone with a different pad though.

We have found Cool Carbon brake pads to dust much less than OE (easily less than half) and with a much more linear and improved stopping ability.

It is important during installation to make certain that the pad fully snaps into and engages the groove on the inside of the piston in order that the pad retracts and does not drag on the rotor surface when brakes are released.
