Using cruise control as engine brake

I have been using the cruise control speed deceleration mode as an engine brake instead of the wheel brakes, and it works really well. My concern is is this causing any problems with the engine?
Thanks, Mike

Just as an FYI, if you are travelling at 60 MPH, and then set the CC to anything lower than, say, 53 MPH, our cars will not only E-brake, but they will also activate the actual brakes as well.

Garage List
I discovered this once when I pulled the cc lever back into the "click" section (which lowers speed 5 mph) and at the same time went to apply the brakes, and felt the brakes were already applied. wasn't aware of this feature. so obviously the brakes lights are being activated as well.

Funny story, I was blasting down a highway with CC set at 65 and the highway was merging with another. The asphalt on the turn turned out to be really unkept and I was admittedly going a tad too fast. Traction control was engaged for a second and then my car took over. Cruise control was disengaged engine breaking and traction control slowing me down, and my iDrive gave me a nice little paragraph on how road conditions were too unstable for cruise control and I should re-engage when conditions get better.

I was about to slow the car down myself assuming CC would have just blindly powered on, but that split second saved me. Really amazing.
