Hi

we are talking E93 330
in for 1st service
its done 14500 miles since new


with the receipt I was given a report saying the following

Pad thickness 11mm both fronts, 8mm both rears

Tyre tread 7mm all round.



My main question is how to interpret these figures

In terms of the pads, if its taken 14K to get to these figures, at what point do you think they will need replacing. Same with the tyres

My rear pads went down to 4mm at 20,000 miles. New rear pads approx 12mm I think the sensor triggers at 3mm yet the car suggests 3,700 miles to go still . My front pads at 20,000 still in very good condition.

Your tyres must be brand new.

Tyres only come with 7 or 8mm tread NEW!

If you've got 7mm after 14k, then they'll last about 90k more!!!

Anyone have the urge to car-jack his car and 'gun it' around loads of roundabouts then drive down country lanes accelerating hard and braking for all those lovely tight bends.

WOW - so 7mm = no wear.

How embarrassing!!!!

In reality no wonder you guys are all cracking your alloys! Serves you all right.

NO - don't take that seriously; just kidding.

In fairness I got the car at 7k. 95% of my driving is totally motorway where I travel at speeds that cannot be mentioned here. There are no turns on motorways so in reality my tyres were always going to get minimal wear compared to town folk.

i would say it has been clocked could of had 40k then put back to 7k then it had new tyres fitted, only joking but it can be done and i have saw it done,
but you would see alot of wear on the seats,

but i would say the dealer put new tyres on it before it went out,

Nah, my baby is mint. Seats look spanking new and have lost none of the firmness. I know what a brand new sports seat feel like when you sit in it. Car still smells new. Got it from a main dealer. It defo hasn't done 40K. Maybe new tyres were put on before giving to me? Who knows

This raises another issue.

You mention clocking. Does this sort of thing go on at main dealers?

I certainly know of a chap who sold a car and then saw the same car advertised some months later with lower mileage then when he sold it. This is a prestige marque. I have no way of verifying if this was true but it certainly gets you worried. Main dealers are full of low mileage examples often owned by the parent company

i cant see it done with BMW mangerment cars as its just a easy way to get second hand cars on the forecourt,i would say its with the private buyer that does a lot of motorway miles,
like you say if the seat is new, check the gear stick and steering wheel, but i would bet it had new tyres on
