2014 535D coming to US is actually European 530D. Look at the HP and Torque numbers! They are the same as US 535D specs

Interesting, because it is a heavier car than the 335d, less HP and torque by a smidgen, but it still has a factory claim of 5.4 secs for 0-60 mph. What was the factory claim for the 335d? It's an X-Drive with an 8-speed Steptronic according to the write-up.

Are you on this planet?? LOL!!!!
This has nothing to do with 335D.
This is about new 2014 5 series diesel coming to US. Look at the approximate MPG on the right side. With just little less HP and TQ car makes very immersive 0-60MPH time and impressive MPG. And is heavier than 335D

Am I reading that right? 36.7 mpg city? 48 hwy? US numbers in a 5series? At a cost of 10ft lbs of torque from an m57?

All I can say is wow! I want one of those in a 335. He'll you can call it a 301 for all I care. That is an impressive motor.

It has a lot to do with the drag coefficient and the transmission too.

Xdrive also can help put the power down much better than our rwd cars struggle with.

Doesn't sound bad at all.

Call me a skeptic.....feels like someone perhaps hasn't got their numbers or calculations right on that link.

The mpg ratings just smell of imperial Gallon vs our US gallon.

Hope I am wrong because that would be a phenomenal car but it just seems too good to be true.

It may be correct. We all know US government figures tend to under estimate diesel MPG. Compared to the 335D the only MPG reducing factor is x-drive. Car weighs almost the same as the 335D, we know newer engine designs always improve efficiency, but the real big one is the 8 speed trans. I would guess the BMW figures are correct for real world but official government numbers will be lower. Also BMW city rating is probably not for conditions we see in say NYC or on one of our many "parkways" bumper to bumper.

This is jupiter no?

First off BMW completely under rated the 0-60 time on the 335d, everyone knows that. Secondly its basically the same engine, so that's what it has to do with the 335d. No way its gonna get 48mpg highway with a slight detune, its just ignorant to think so. We can talk more when it actually comes out...

All number are listed there, Including imperial and US gallons. All I can say is that current European emissions standards are not as tough as US standards, so I expect little decrease in mileage for US models. Its still impressive IMO.

It’s not the same engine! Maybe is based on N57, but according to BMW press release this is brand new engine coming to US, with improved gas mileage. We'll see.

From what I have read and heard the 530/330 use a single turbo as opposed to
Two. Not a twin scroll a la n55, just one.

The MPG numbers do seem a bit inflated though. Just looking at some other write ups on that site and things don't seem to add up very well. There is a separate section labled US EPA estimates that isn't populated for the 530d (understandable as it isn't coming here). Pulling up the US spec.2011 335d and our numbers are there (23/36). however, the euro spec 2011 335d with more power shows euro spec mpg at 15% or so better with US gallons. It appears as though the European equivalent to our EPA isn't really much of a regulatory body or the EPA guys are really quite anal. My 335d performs pretty much right in line with the EPA numbers.

Yep, just read it. Funny because of the condescending manor with which this was incorrectly described to me a while back - If someone was going to take that tact you would think that they actually knew what they were talking about. Anyway, I was obviously wrong and my apologies.

The N57 power plant uses for the most part variable vane turbos. N57 has been around for some time (~2 yrs).
