ECU Reset and new parts

Hi guys,

I just installed a new ER charge pipe and AEM air/fuel gauge. I am using GIAC stage 2 with all the extra parts. After I installed the charge pipe I took the car for a test drive without resetting the ECU and the car feels a lot slower up top. I am still hitting the same boost peak of 16psi (which has always been a little low for some reason).

My question is - should I reset my ECU for the new parts or will the ECU adapt automatically to the new parts?

I dont have a boost leak either ...

Thanks in advance.

Reset the ECU with a BT tool. It is what I did and felt a great improvement after my ESS flash tuner.

I have had the same experience. But some top tuners insist that its a waste of time, effort, and energy.

I think if you change the way the car breathes, add intake piping that is larger, ie charge pipe, intercooler, dci or any intake, DV's ... any of that... I want to teach the car how to use the new equipment. Throttle valve adaptions, air, fuel, all that. Be careful as some cars with error code and create a throttle frenzy. A simple ECU reset is a safe way to expidite the car's learning process without any errors.

16psi is the correct boost for GIAC Stage 2. In fact, on the dyno you will hit 15.7 or so.

Also should I reset my throttle body directly?

Or is just doing a ECU full reset ok?

Thanks

Just select reset all or reset all modules on the drop down menu if I recall.

It is under the ECU list, go to Adaptations, then ECU reset.

I also reset my DCT adaptations, Octane adaptation, timing/fuel map adapations etc Dont reset the throttle one or you will have to use the BT tool to clear throttle codes.

Just changed from the xo2 fmic to the ETS. Yeah.. nice upgrade! I will be resetting all adaptions, the ECU, and the Transmission as well.

Then I warm up the oil with a 10 min at 2500 rmps in 5th gear. This teaches the engine to run smooth at cruising speed ( @ 65mph), then I park for 10 min and leave the car running. This teaches the car to idle smoothly as well. Finally I do a series of pulls, from about 30 mph to 60, 3o - 70, 30-80, 30 -90, 30-100mph. This helps the DME to learn smooth acceleration and transitions. Then rolling from 3o mph, wot runs through 5th gear, sometimes 6th depending on how much traffic there is or is not. I use sport mode in my AT and manually shift about 6250rpms through as many gears as possible. After about 5 wot pulls to 5th or 6th gear, my car is ready for anything and is using any new toys uncovering their potential for hp.

Maybe its all in my head... but it makes sense to me that the ECU needs to learn how to use different amounts of air and fuel for combustion. I feel a difference in my car every time. I have tried just installing a new part and driving around for a while and I alway feel like I get better results from the changes I have made after a full adaptions reset. Its just a bitch doing throttle valve adaptions as it is one of the moodiest adaptions.

Stupid question, does resetting the ECU uninstall a flash like Dinan, Cobb or GIAC? And does the car need to be RUNNING when you are resetting adaptations?

Where did you get the ECU upgrade? What do you need to install one (aka any other upgrades for this to work on the car)?

I just did an ECU RESET and then Re uploaded the firmware on my JB4. I feel that JB4 feels much stronger after a fresh firmware upload immediately following an ECU and Adaptions Reset.

Again, many folks find it to be a futal exercise.... I find that my car pulls alot harder after I add a new mod, reset adaptions, reset ecu, and re -upload the JB4 Firmware.

I used to have problems connection jb3 after an ECU reset. It would change maps and the interface was just glitchy after I reset the ECU until I uploaded the firmware again. I haven't really heard anyone else report this...

Hi guys,

So I just got back from a business trip and tried to reset my ECU.

I was able to reset the ECU - by reseting the fault codes and doing a complete reset all modules. However I could not individually reset the throttle body, intake air flow and air fuel?

When I clicked the reset for each of them in the command setting under the ECU tab - I got command sent fail in the bottom left of the window.

How do I go abt reseting the throttle body and air fuel individually? - the car was off when I reset them too.

Any help would be great.

I guess that Will do the same thing?
