Metallic knocking noise
Noise has just started
Seems to be coming from the front drivers side area. Surely cant be the shock / spring as these are less than 10k old. Sounds like metal on metal knocking.... Anybody have any ideas? Car is a 320d m47 engine Only knocks / rattles over bumps in the road |

Just to update this
Noise was the brake disc backing plate / stone guard. 2 bottom fixings had corroded / broken so the back plate was knocking off the disc over bumps. 4 mudguard / penny washers later and the problem is gone. Nice cheap repair |

Hi,
i think i am having the same noise, but i am not sure for now if I have the same problem with breaking disk plate, because it can be heard only when turning right over the bumps and never if i am driving straight. Does anyone know of other possible causes for this problem? Thanks |

That's the one mate. Goes form the suspension strut to the anti roll bar. They're easy to change. Easier if you have 2 jacks, one to jack the car up, and then another to put under the front wheel hub to push up and compress the suspension a little so that the bolts can come out straight - you'll see what I mean when you start undoing the links.
