Extended maintenance or $1,500 off car? Pls help.

Hi All,

Tomorrow I will be a first time BMW owner! I'm picking up an 08 cpo 335xi.

I can choose extended maintenance to 6yr/100k or 1,500 in payments toward the car (interest rate isn't of concern because I wouldn't keep the loan long).

The reason I'm having a hard time with this decision is because of the lack of a clear maintenance schedule. I always do pads/rotors myself and will likely do the oil changes as I prefer a shorter cycle than what the computer seems to suggest. But I wouldn't want to do plugs and likely won't want to do fluid flushes on this car either. Other little things like microfilters, etc may add up. So, for someone who is mechanically inclined and tends to do a number of maintenance things on their own, would your recommend the maintenance plan or the free payments?

Thanks.

Figure an oil change every 15k or so, and a couple of filters and at least one brake change in addition to a set of plugs.

The $1.5k is probably better if you expect to do your own brakes.

If you don't hit 100K miles in six years, then you won't realized the full benefit of the maintenance plan.

My out of pocket expenses were ~$1400 between 50K-100K miles. Mixture of Dealer, Indy, and DIY.

IMO, put money toward the principal.

~199K miles. I -still- don't fear my 335i.

make sure u read the fine print with the 1500. they basically pay your first 3payments upto 1500, so if your payments are only 300/mo then thats what bmw will pay and you only get 900, so make sure you schedule the loan accordingly.
