450rwhp???

New 335i owner. Previous car was a 2003 cobra @ 508rwhp (wrecked). I'd like to get my 335i to somewhere around 450rwhp...... Are these cars at that point yet? I have a procede already. When are the aftermarket turbo kits coming? What are the combos/builds out there and what power are they making to the rear wheels?

No Nitrous.............

You will be able to make ~430-440whp with full mods (but stock turbo), PROcede and meth injection.

What are the "full mods". Can you list them. I was the guy in NJ with the blue 335i you did.

You can make 450+rw on the stock turbos with mods, but its pushing things quite a bit. A few companies are working on large turbo setups so there should be affordable options out by early next year.

Mike
this was done with:

JB3 w/ custom board (12 ohm safety resistors)
Riss downpipes and catback
BMS dual cone intake
Code3 Intercooler
Coolingmist meth tank/pump/nozzle, BMS controller

also, disregard shiv, keep your secondary cats.

....and 20psi of boost. With my recipe, boost is limited to 17psi for obvious reasons. Being able to add 2-3 degrees of timing on top of stock means that you don't have to run absurd boost to make good power.

Peak boost was 18.5psi according to the dyno gauge, 17.4psi on the BMS gauge. Not child's play but pretty strong boost levels. I believe this is the highest documented stock turbo dyno but may be wrong. BMS previously tried ~20psi boost levels and encountered boost leak and/or wastegate problems.

Sorry I must have missed the dyno's boost logs. Are they posted on the another graph somewhere?

Shiv, can you explain exactly what you do when with timing?

In one thread you say you retard timing to make the engine safer, so it won't knock pre-maturely.

Then in this thread you say you advance timing to get more power with less boost...

So which is it? And if it's both, which happens when?

BOLT ON TURBOS FTW! Stock turbos just die after 5600 they cant hold boost. New turbo upgrades are going to carry the power out to the redline. I think the issue were going to run into on bolt on turbos is that were going to get maxed out on the exhaust side of the turbo and cause the curve to plateau instead of keep building power. Look in the picture of Shivs impressive conservativly tuned bolt on prototypes. But you can see how the curve plateaus and because you wont be able to get a big enough turbine wheel for bolt ons that will probably cause a plateau to redline. And the race gas plus map below is pushing the stock turbos pretty far to get that power and longevity of the turbo at that power will be sacrificed, and i believe that race plus meth tune is on a custom map that was tuned by Terry correct?

Correct. Seen the compressor maps yet?
They were leaked a bit ago. Not sure if they are still public though.

Basically, in stock form the turbos are reaching close to inefficiency after 6,000 rpms.
Keep pushing them to provide more boost and after 5,000 you're way out of the efficiency range. Meaning the turbo is spinning fast as hell. Of course, excessive shaft speed means a lot of heat.
Kiss longevity good bye.

Personally, I wouldn't push stock turbos past 10 to 12 psi unless an exploding turbo and the costs associated (especially with a BMW) doesn't scare you...
