Found this in the enginebay
Hi all,
I found this in the engine bay yesterday when cleaning the car. It was under the engine on the bottom . Anyone have a clue what this could be, on the Dutch BMW board they don(t know it. And when you google the part number it called Drall-Gen ? What is this for, is this a car part ? The car where I found it in, is a E91 318d - 2009 build. Part n° and tekst on that thing: 1371 7810131-01 143897 10 Borscheid & Wenig >TE.E< Best regards Kris |

Found out what the part is, it belongs in the airtube from the airfilter to the airintake from the turbo.
It simple felt out doing a service by a BMW dealer, a local dealer looked up the part number for me but didn't find it. The part number dous not show up in the partlist from BMW but one of the tech recognized the part. He told me where it belongs, hey also said it is a part that sitting loose in the tube and can easely fall out when servicing that tube. Whenever the part is broken you need to buy a complete new tube But the part isnt even listed . So if anyone feel the need to remove that tube and check out if the propellor fitted your welcome . Best regards |

Nice...glad you found out where it's supposed to go. If it were me though, I'd be happier knowing that it wasn't in there anymore lol seriously, the last place I'd want that thing coming loose at is directly in front of the compressor wheel.

It's probably a flow-straightener, to align the flow so that it enters the compressor at the optimum angle during operation. I would not want to run without it in place.

I was hoping it was one of these (lol "increases hp and gas mileage"):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TORNADO-SUPE...4d2ee2&vxp=mtr Our turbos were actually turbonators! BMW had us fooled all along!... but no.
