I would go with Zimmermann rotors and Stoptech pads. But you might have even more cost effective options in the US.

I have only had the pads and rotors on it for 100 miles or so but a huge difference in squeaking over OEM pads I had. Grip and stopping feels just like/better than the OEM setup I had.
By mistake I ordered two sets of HPS pads, I am selling one set of pads. If anyone is interested let me know.

@eppisgood jetBlackCoupe gave a close estimate already. The estimates I got were from 80$ an axle to 170$ an axle. I paid 185 for brake job and brake fluid flush.

What made you decide to not go OEM? Why akebono?

Akebono costs $80 whereas the price for OEM brake pads from the indy shop was quoted at $148.22.

From this thread and reading elsewhere in this section, I've gathered that Akebono brake pads have a good reputation for not much brake dust, nearly as good of stopping power as OEM, & aren't very noisy. Also am considering StopTech.

Zimmermann rotors because I don't track my car & don't drive aggressively... I'll accelerate aggressively every now and then, but when I do I always am in front of traffic and the roads around here are very wide with great visibility so I'm always gently braking. The indy shop says they can get me Zinc coated Zimmmerman rotors for $185, which is the same price as that website, so I'll just get the rotors from the indy shop.

The labor portion is only $216 (these are for front, not rear, FYI) - the indy shop is highly recommended on here & Yelp. So using the above parts ($262.47), it'd be a total of $478.47.

The indy shops original quote of $627.75 includes OEM brakes/rotors/sensor/install. They don't warranty "feel" or "noise" if OEM isn't used, which I'm sure is standard amongst indy shops.

My brake setup is in my sig. Used the same setup on my STi. I think it is the best bang for the buck. No unusual noises, just a lot stronger pedal and the car brakes on a dime. I love having a strong brake setup.

The best way to avoid the squeaks and the squeals is to put a thin layer of grease or lubricant on the back of your brake pads. Be careful not to get on the side that rubs against the rotor.

I believe there are other products that stop the squeaks from Bavarian Auto and other sites but I bought a cheap tube of Axle grease from Walmart years ago that I'm still going through. It is about the length of a tube of caulk and you just pop the top and take a Q-tip or scoop some with your fingers if you use gloves in the shop. Just a thin layer will help the metal/metal contact and eliminate the squealing.

Not sure what tools you have but if you have a $20 floor jack (cheaper if you get one from Harbor Freight) and a $20 ratchet set from Sears (cheaper at Harbor Freight w coupons in paper or online, always available). Also, you need a 4" C-Clamp to push the brake piston back, $10 or less.

However, if you have some very basic tools, this is the Easiest job to do yourself. I can't believe I ever paid someone to replace my brake pads (& lie to me telling me I needed to replace my caliper...)

You can help the squeak by taking the wheel off, take the two bolts that hold the caliper on pull the brake pads off, wipe "stop squeak" from the auto parts store or just use a thin layer of regular axle grease on the back of the rotors where the caliper pistons push against the brake pads. This will help the squeak. Dealing with the brake dust is easy until you wear through that set of pads and put on some ceramics.

Find someone on the site that needs to change their brakes and this goes much quicker with a partner. If anyone is north of Chicago or in Wisconsin, I'm always working on my 2006 330i sedan. I just put on a front and back set of the Callahan Auto Slotted and Drilled Rotors and ceramic pads on Ebay. I heard some good things about them and for $338 shipped to my house I had to check them out. I'm very impressed, service from the company was great and shipped from Northern Chicago, I had them the next day or 2 days at most. This kit came with Rotors (that haven't rusted, sitting for 2 weeks while working on car), ceramic pads, & wear sensors. I wish it came with the hold down bolts, just had to buy from Stealership for $3 each, and wish it had the break anti-squeal in the kit. These all come with the full break kits from Bav-Auto for $650 + with shipping.
