PPI refunds claims
Hi, all I keep hearing about is people getting thousands off pounds in money being returned form insurance they never wanted,
Have I missed something ,I was told Yesterday even when you pay your credit card in full each month you have been charged . Who can reccy a decent firm , PM me if you want ,I have been with Lloyds for 25yrs and Im sure 90% i Have cleared my monthly balance ,I also don't remember having any insurance in case I was out of work . Thanks as always |

I've just started looking at this myself; I had a loan a fair few years ago (but still within time) and two credit cards which also had it (also both paid off a few years ago).
Checking old statements I had some form of insurance or another on each of them. I think there's a few £k there between the three. On that basis, and given the amount of information freely available on the web including sample letters etc, I'm going after this myself. Assuming there's £4k on the table I'll be f*cked if I'm going to give away 25% of that (plus the vodka and tonic) to a company sending the very same letters that I can. That £1,200 is a good chunk against a new watch, right?!

If you had any loans in past its wroth checking out and do it yourself stay away from these firms. I kept thinking oh I dont have any why bother. Then neihbour told me he by luck spotted it on his CC bill and post claim bagged over £800. So rang up few of my old loans and put queries into my old mortgage lenders as well.
Up to now I'm into 5 figures on refunds cant believe it. Best thing is as long as you remember the name of the lender you can do it. Even if you dont have paper work since they will have it. For example I recalled having a loan with egg loans on my old car. No paper work as it was back in 2004. Rang them up wrote a letter and hey presto after about 7 weeks a cheque for £900. If you dont remember the name of lenders just sign up to a free trial with experian and run a credit report on yourself this will tell you all your past lenders. Key is its not only the PPI amount you did pay but also the interested earned on top so it quickly starts to add up. Its a big of keyboard work but well worth it. Plenty more advise and sample letters you can use at martins money matters. Good Luck

How many years can you go back?? This has been on my list of things to do but it a huge undertaking as I've had many & various credit cards and loans over the years. To be fair, I'd happy give a company 25% just to save myself all the effort, but simply don't trust them. If anyone has a recommendation for an 'honest' PPI claims company then I'm all ear - I've heard some horror stories (admittedly 2rd/3rd hand).

I'm pretty sure it has to have been active in the last 10 years.
From what I've heard, it really isn't a great deal of hassle, Rog (I have friends and colleagues that have done it themselves). I'll let you know how I get on, and you can make the decision based on some reliable intel.

Scooba, OT I know, but I believe that you're a watch man - is it just Rolexes you deal in or do you dabble with other brands as well?

Defo claim if you had it. Two people in my department at work have had refunds, one of them two refunds!
I tried it (easy process) but it turns out that my mortgage insurance was taken out with another company, not my mortgage lender which I'd forgotten about.

Crazy not to as many said do it yourself its just bit of typing and few calls and you have nothing to loose and plenty to gain.

I thought about this but it would be a lot of hassle if you then found out you never had any ppi. I have had 3 credit cards and 2 loans but not sure i ever had insurance.

so you have 3 cards and 2 loans thats 5 phone calls in total. Not a bad punt for possible decent return and if you have the paper work even easier as it would be on there. As I mentioned before this is what I thought and now I'm eating my words as its earned me 5 figures for in total no more than couple of hours of typing and calls and I went through far more accounts that 3 creditcards and 2 loans

So is this PPI refund only for situations where you have bought insurance on financial products? i.e. I have had stacks of cards in the past / loans etc, but have never bought PPI, so doesnt apply to me I take it?

If you know for certain you never applied or asked for PPI and are 100% certain it was never added then you are fine.
As I found out in my case it was both scenarios happened. Some I recalled being told I had to take PPI to get the loan/mortgage and as I found out in more of them PPI was simply tacked on as part of the loan. With worlds smallest print noting it

So basically, what is happening is that whether you took out PPI knowingly or unknowingly, the former can use the total chaos in the matter to claim back the payments even though you opted for it in the first place.
Cool! - Or maybe not... |

Over the years I've moved my credit cards about and taken out numerous car loans but am pretty confident I opted to not have any bells & whistles added, but, can't rule out the odd one having it one (or even put on even if I asked for it to be removed - or on because it was never highlighted). For me, I see a right load of donkey works for me, for little reward, hence wanting to use a company. Just want one I can have confidence in (don't mind sharing my spoils for an easy life). I'll happily use a company if recommended by anyone.
