seen your DPF post.. i'd agree with this path. At worst buy a scangauge, i think pds 125 in the UK. Should allow two things:
- easily view when coolant temp is above 75C, enabling regeneration
- see when catalyst inlet temp is going up, trying a regen.
and when resolved put it somewhere until the next issue

It will not do a regen simply because coolant temp is above 74/75C, it needs a certain constant engine load too. The catalyst inlet temp on the OBD reader would show, and I can also provide the values.

I don't know what the (yellow?) DPF light really means, but assume it should be a last warning to take the car on road and try a regen. 70mph steady should do it, about 8-12 mls after seeing 75C

The difference between yellow and red light ought to be:
- yellow: you can resolve by driving the car at 70 mph for 8-12mls, when warm (but this is steady, if you have an OBD reader you quickly understand what only slightly coming off the throttle implies)
- red: too much soot in DPF, a regen would result in an uncontrolled fire within the DPF, hence the ECU won't do it and you need new DPF

I would challenge BMW if a yellow warning light can only be resolved by dealer intervention.

I can help if you can wait a week. I got a BT Pro cable that should be able to reset those codes.
