BMWCCA Road Atlanta 9/6-8/2013

Video from some of my runs this past weekend at Road Atlanta. I am driving an IP class E36 M3. This is my first time out here at this track and it is by far one of the best tracks I have ever driven. I saw a bunch of E9x 335s and 328s out there, was it any of you guys?

Thanks for sharing. I was just looking at the VIRspeedway website because last night my neighbor told me I should bring my S2000 there. I've never been on the track before. what was your top speed and how fast were you going on the turns.

It all depends on the turn on how fast I was going. On the straights the car would get up to about 133ish, on the turns I am not even looking at that. This car is capable or a low to mid 1:35 around this track, being that it was my first time and there are so many places you can mess up really bad I was consistent high 1:30s low 1:40s.

If its your first time out, the line and correct car control is much more important than worrying about how fast you are going. This is my first event out at this track but I have instructed at various tracks across the country. VIR is an AWESOME track, with a multiple higher speed sections. An s2000 would be a great car to start in, you should get out there and have some fun. You will be addicted after the first run.

^^

+1

Once you get to the track, the last thing you'll give two $hits about is your top speed, and to a lesser extent your speed in corners.

Combination of the right lines, corner entry speed, corner speed, and lap times is where it's at. And, at your first ever track day, it's about learning the track and your vehicle, and the lines. Lap times and all the stuff about speeds comes once you've got a bunch of track days under your belt.

I highly recommend it.

Disclaimer/ I've also never taken a car to the track (yet), but have done tons of track days on motorcycles and held a race license and raced motorcycles for several years. The same principles apply.
