Overspray on I/C from painting grille

I want to tape up the center lower grille and spray it black. I want to tape it up REALLY well and spray from a distance to get as less of paint as i can on the intercooler. What if I do get some on the intercooler? Is that going to raise an issue in performance?

Her some party balloons and put them behind the mesh and blow them up tight together. Really cool trick I learned on a DIY on here.

Its ridiculously easy to remove the grilles, if you want we can meet up some time if you dont feel comfortable removing them yourself. I live like 35 min from you.

This is possible. Does it require to take off the bumper? It's just the middle grille. I painted the other two

Yes, you need to take off the bumper. It's not a difficult task.

No you don't. At least on my 07 e92. You can just push it in around the edges. Then just angle it out. Just go slow to not break the grille.

Put some balloons in there. A few of them. Slide in the grille then blow them up as tie them. Tape off the bumper and spray light coats. It'll be easy and no overspray! lol

The balloon trick worked really well. I'd suggest you use compressed air from a can to blow up the balloons though, not your mouth

I removed the center grille, painted it, and put it back on.
You can do this without removing the bumper.

That's what I would do too. You don't need to take off the whole bumper, just the screws on top will do.
