I sometimes miss my E46 M3 as well, this photo , almost 10 years ago, fooling around like this, excellent. But time goes on.

Stage 4 if you have $45K laying around to invest in a car that already costs 25K, thats a lot of money...

Just try the N54 equipped 1M, out of the box the best M since the M3 CSL.
I agree, the soul of the car is altered with a turbo kit but the straight line performance of that car is very subpar by today's standards, I couldn't drive one without the turbo kit...

1M? Sir, I don't beleive we are talking about remotely the same power levels when I say HPF stage 2.

never heard of one transmission breaking. it is one of the few parts that are different from the e46m3, i believe it is zf produced. Its not a great transmission... that being said with a few simple mods it becomes very livable. I also would never get rid of my s54 for anything short of a high end P car or maybe even certain F cars. Its that good. the 335 will beat up on the s54 in N/A trim any day of the week, but for me the road feel is unbeatable. From what i heard the 1M is almost as raw as the Z4M. I went from a trubo car that was could be much faster than my M coupe but at the end of the day the NA engine is damn near perfect. puts a smile on my face every time i get in the car!

statement coming from someone who has no real world experience w a proper turbo solution on a s52 or s54 i'm assuming?

You retain all the high revving nature, it just makes 2x or more HP and lots more TQ. Its no like a S54 has any TQ to begin with so a little turbo lag is an easy trade off. It has N/A lag to begin with down low.

Here's an example of an HPF M3 in action - check out the tach (it's not on a dyno):

LOL I've never heard that phrase before but it hits the nail on the head.

I think I may pick-up an E46 in the next year or so and go the HPF route. I just want something unique that's more engaging and I'm young enough I can live with something brutish. Gotta finish up my E36 first though...
