Angry IForged Lip already pitting!!

So I've had my 19 in Iforged Daytonas on for about a month now. Hyper Black with the chrome lip. Love the rim. BUT, the lips are pitting. First it was just the front right rim. Now its all of them. I use nothing but soap and water to clean them. I'm not a newb to the aftermarket rims. I'm pretty dissapointed. I know if I send them back I'll be without them for at least a month. Anyone else experience this??

Thats going to happen when the tire doesn't cover the lip of the rim. Rocks hit the soft aluminum and you get small pits. Or if it's in the inner lip a rock just got in there when you were driving. Not much you can do about that.

Not sure what you mean by pitting, but I-forged wheels are not the greatest wheels in terms of quality. They look great, but they aren't built that way.

iForged wheels are A$$. When it comes to quality the japanese know what they are doing. Work/Volk > iForgery, DPE etc...

I should take a video of my WORK wheels completely dirty and then show you how easy (literally 1 swipe) they become clean.

This is b/c WORK/VOLK uses a clear coat on the spokes/lip making them a breeze to clean....

Is the lip chrome or polished aluminum? Big difference. Not to mention if they are bare, with not sealant they are going to fair pretty poorly in just the normal wear and tear.

FYI Japanese don't have the hitori-hanzo touch on aluminum. They just established themselves as brand names and quality. Sometime companies try to beat a price point and have to cut corners.

Do you mean your the chrome is flaking off your wheels? As others have stated, iForged is not the highest quality rims out there. If you want a quick fix, you can go to RimPro and have them strip off the chrome and hyper-polish the lips. iForged is probably going to tell you it's not their fault / problem.

I had a problem with the chromed lips on a set of Maya STMs in the past. RimPro fixed it for me and it came out perfect.

I have iforged with chrome lip. I have kept a good coat of wax on them from day 1 and after a year the lips look perfect. They sit outside all day every day as well.

Snap a picture for us!

Yeah its somewhat flaking. I have a pic before they got real bad. There's also water marks on them that I cant get out. I'll try and load and old cell pic.

I don't think you have chrome lips then...polished lips are hard to take care of. I have had numerous IForged wheels and never had issues as long as you take care of them. I polished them out and wax them each time I wash the car. I have the usual road rash stuff going on which you can't get around.

Go snap some new pics with a real camera. The water marks should be easy to get out. You can be pretty agressive with polish on chrome.

I don't care what he thinks, Chrome is one of the hardest finishes and generally will last way longer than just polished aluminum (which can look like chrome) but there is a HUGE difference.

Odds are if he "waxed" them...it's not chrome. There's chrome polish for a reason.

Chrome plating aluminum is ok as long as the the plating isn't breached. At that point the aluminum becomes an anode which will cause the chrome to flake in the area of the breach. Much more of a problem in the rust belt with salt in the winter.

I've put nothing but sealant/wax on my chrome lips. Chrome polish is last resort when they tarnish which mine havent.

I've said it a million times on here, do not buy polished lips with Iforged. First they dont look as good or last as long as chrome, secondly polished lips are welded with Iforged which is garbage. Chrome lips are true 2 piece. DPEs are welded as well. Everyone talks about how much better quality DPE wheels are but I just dont see it.

Work/Volk = great quality but they dont fit the style of a BMW. Looks better on Nissans and Hondas

I just got some Daytona's with chrome lip and barrel. You are right they are true 2 piece. I have heard and seen welded polish alum. lip from iForge .....one where the weld has cracked. Why do they weld the one's with polish lips?

I have posted this before... I had a set of Iforged wheels on my G35 coupe.
The CLEAR COAT LAYER started PEELING OFF the polished lips on ALL FOUR WHEELS after about 12 months. It was the most frustrating thing ever... I got a set of CHROME 3 piece Maya's with which i had NO problems whatsoever. If you have a choice, stick with TRUE chromed lips...

Just my .02

Sometimes it can be difficult to tell, however chrome finishes are usually much more brilliant than any polished finished.

iforged wheel lips arent the best. the wheels definitely look nice but any "bump" into anything harder than your hand and they will damage the wheel. any grain of sand or ANYTHING! its crazy, its like the aluminum is super soft or something i have no idea. Time for the HRE buddy!

Ive got I-Forged with the polished lip and it seems like i find new scratches on them every time i wash my car. The only way i seem to be able to keep them looking good is by applying a generous coat of light-abrasive wheel polish to them once a month. The lip material is soft enough that this seems to clear up the light scratches and blemishes for the time being. They are definitely coming off for the winter months though; I don’t even want to imagine what salt and winter road grime would do to their finish.
