I just got done doing test runs on the new map the night before. I was up till 3am, and then left for Sacramento at 5am! I was disappointed with my Vbox results and almost didn't want to make the trip. Furthermore when I got there, it was pretty damn hot to be changing tires, etc. The sun was really strong to the point where I was getting a sunburn. I was cursing the weather and thought to myself, "why me?". So considering the factors, I was pretty pleased with my results.

I think I could have launched harder, but I didn't want to risk spinning and ruining the run. Its kind of hard when you have to wait in line as the dragsters, motorcycles, etc, go. In the meanwhile, your engine is getting hot, and the ambient temps are going up. So you just can't afford to experiement too much. I have already confirmed in my testing how much ambient temps can help. So if it were 56F instead of 65F, I think I would have been pushing over 121mph traps.

Again, the car ran great, no stumbling or hiccups.
FYI, this morning on 91 octane, and the newer map#6 equivalent, the car was runnning 115.6 mph on the Vbox.

It is interesting how your performance can vary by the type of gas you are using, and ambient conditions, etc.

do you just wake up every day and do v-box testing all the way to work, then all the way home. then do more v-box testing at night before bed

Don't get me wrong.. i say that with love, gotta appreciate your dedication to that device/drag racing.

haha everyone wonders why he gets such good times

it's because of his obsession with the vbox, no surprise there

warren post some pics of the road you use for testing... curious

Its always awesome to know what you ran when you cross the finish line. You don't even have to wait till you get your timeslip from the booth. And the Vbox is definitely conservative with the times. It never reads quicker than you actually are. Compared to this track, the MPH on the Vbox is .60mph faster as usual.

I'm sure he uses it often but the power that these modded N54s make, these things eat tires! Nitto DRs for the street, Hoosier DRs for the track? Sounds like what I need to do next. LOL

Its always nice to see what some of the other cars are running at the track. You can see the cars tend to stay in their trap speed groups. Many of these cars like that red charger were so loud and nasty sounding, I thought they would beat me easily. Didn't happen. And look at those LS2 GTOs...
Looks like there were only about 3 street cars in the 11's. The 335i is pretty damn impressive to run those numbers and get 27mpg on the way home in total comfort and luxury!

And it is also remarkable that at these power levels, the car had no limps, no stumbling, and no tuner codes. And this was done on stock diverter valves!

Awesome times Warren!! Your continued work at the strip is impressive. I noticed on the N54- Site, Terry talking about some safety features you have disabled? I am not sure I understand how they work, but does it allow you any direct control boost over boost? Are you just maxxing it out without the DME or the JB3 getting in the way?

Here is the info from Terry

"The JB3 has software and hardware "over boost" protection built in. On the software front, we limit how much solenid offset the JB3 can induce per a given boost target (other systems have this as user adjustable, on the JB3 we set it per map). As a back stop safety we also have a hardware limit built in, in the form of two 24 ohm resistors. The two combine to prevent run away boost spikes, spinning the compressors to the moon, etc.

We allow more than enough duty cycle for say 15psi stock, or 16-17psi with mods, with reasonable duty cycle. But when you try to pump too much boost through a car with not enough mods, you need to close the wastegates more. Most reasonable people would just lower the boost or add more modifications. But some crazy people like Warren just ask us to change the safety limit. In this case we replaced his 24ohm resistors for 18ohm resistors to prevent the underboost limp he would otherwise have running 16-17psi on a 100% stock motor."

What was involved in making these changes? Can you simply ask Terry to do this or be a Beta tester, DIY, etc??

Thanks for any info?

I think HotRod is avoiding putting on any more mods since he thinks it may make him slower lol..

Seriously where would this guy be at with DPs, Intake, Intercooler, and Exhaust? Isn't that a good 50-60whp left on the table?? C'Mon HotRod stop playing with my emotions and put some bolt-ons on!

i really think he should get dynoed as is, then start modding his car... re-dyno/go back to the track. it would be a great comparison of dyno numbers vs. times.
