Spec wise this is how the two compare (255/30/19)

P Zero Silvers:

Section Width: 10.4"
Tread Width: 9.1"

The Michelin PSS are:

Section Width: 10.2"
Tread Width: 10"

Does that mean anything to anyone????

Looks like as you expected the tread on the PSS is wider as a result of the squarer shape to the tyre.

As for wether it will scrape or not, i cant say.

My personal view is, buy the tyres, and if it scrapes, sort the arches so it doesnt.

I wouldnt want my tyre selection to be limited by ill fitting wheels.

Yeh, the MPSS seem to have a wider tread. However they have a smaller section width, meaning the are actually a narrower tyre overall than the P Zero....

Odd!!

The alloys fit fine, and the old P Zero set up caused me no concerns!!!

Is there 0.45" room between existing tyre and arch as it stands? If there isn't then the pilots should rub based on your tread width numbers above.

I'm honestly not sure, as the wheels and tyres are currently off the car and have been sent off for refurb NUMBER 5 (yes, they really have had 5 attempts at refurbing the alloys!!!)

The dealer is asking me to consider Continental tyres now anyway, and the Contact Sport 5P seems to get a good write up, so I think I will go with those....... ??

Anyone have any thoughts on the Conti's?

Also, aside from that how do you arrive at the 0.45" figure?

Interested to know for future reference?

Difference between 9.1 & 10" = 0.9" wider. That's .45" on either side of the tyre.

Tbh, as i mentioned, i think just by looking at pilot sports they run wide & square!

Yeh, you are right, I had MPSS on my F56 MINI and they did stretch well over a 8j rim (205/40/18) but they maintained a fairly square shoulder.

Looking at the Conti Contact Sport 5P's they are as follows:

Section width: 10.2"
Tread width: 9.5"

So by that reckoning they are fairly close to the P Zero Silver measurements....

A great thread guys. I have aftermarket alloys (on the car when I purchased) with some cheap 235/35/19 front an rear and the tyres dont give too much RIM protector and I've managed to kerb the OSF and rip the tyre.
I'm going to get the rim repaired and replace the tyres with some decent treads.
Looks like I should look at keep the 235/35/19 on the front and pop some 255/30/19 on the rears.

Any suggestions to tyres that are going to sit out more and protect my rims? As well a me parking bloody properly

I'd go with Michelin SuperSports in 265/30/19 on the rear if you have the arch to accommodate it. They are a more squared sidewall design and give good protection.

First thing he needs to do, is find out how wide his wheels are, as was said in the other thread.
