E90 Rear Brakes from Dealer $450 Good Deal?

Hello,

I'm in need of new rear brakes, pads and rotors of course. I was thinking of going to an Indy, but Advantage BMW is offering it for $450 including parts and labor.

I feel that's cheaper or just as cheap as an Indy would do. About the same price as if I bought the parts myself and took it too an Indy too right?

http://www.advantagebmwhouston.com/value-service.htm

Thanks for your thoughts!

Is a not as high as others I ve seen around. You can save about $250.00 if you do it yourself.

sounds like you don't want to DIY so as far as shop prices go, that is probably ball park of what you will pay. $450 doesn't seem too bad considering dealer uses all OEM parts($$$) and indy shops will just go aftermarket. I would probably check out an Indy shop as aftermarket will give you more options as far as pads go

That seems a bit high for rear brakes
For my 330i's front brakes it cost me 335 dollars. Sensors, i believe zimmerman z coated roaters, and brembo pads.

Well, in my opinion rear brakes are a little harder to replace since you have less space to work on since you cannot turn steeting wheel and work with easy access, also you have to remove the plastic fender cover to replace sensor.

The front you can turn steering wheel and is easier to work on. No need to remove plastic cover for sensor. Cheers!

Good deal. I think I will stick with the dealer, that way I have someone to blame that I know will fix it if anything goes wrong!

The dealership told me that my rear brakes are "crystalized" and that might be what is causing a squealing noise coming from the rear at low speeds. Sounds kinda like a wheel bearing is squealing or something though. Does this make any sense? Crystalized?

Thanks for the input.

There was a thread by OneBadMofo, who figured out the cause of the squeaky rear brakes. The issue is over time the brakes rust and you really need to take everything apart and sand down the rust + add some grease to the affected area so it resists rusting in the future. Some people cheat and bend that part to get more clearance to avoid the squeak but the right way is to clean off the rust. The rust takes up space which is already a tight squeeze anyways.

I think you can get a set of BMW rear pad's for about $100 and the set of rear rotors are about $150-ish? The rest is all labor cost, if they don't clean off that rust then you will still squeak.

The squealing is often caused by the lip that is created on the rotor rubbing the pad.

Alright thanks for the help. I would assume if I get new rotors and pads, that would take care of the rust issue too? Until they rust again that is..

Spray some brake cleaner in there and see if that helps.

$700 for just the rear sounds like a deep effing. Are you a cca member? That gets you a discount on dealer service/parts.

You can get rotors and pads from turner for like $400 for all corners. How many miles? If you only use the car for street driving maybe you can just have the rotors turned.

Although I am in Canada, I just had my rear pads and rotors done using Zimmerman rotors and Textar pads including sensor and labour for $365.

It wasn't $700, it is actually $450. If that post was to me...

And I just found another deal where you can bring in non-perishable goods and get double the value towards service. I confirmed with the dealer no limits, so if I bring in $370 worth of goods, I get $740 worth of service which is how much the price is without discont at another dealer.

So now it is $370, which I think is a great deal!

From the way the write was described... I don't believe so. Its not on the pad/rotor but another part of the rear brakes.

Bosch

You could get Bosch rotors and ceramic pads for probably less then $250.00 out the door on eBay or Amazon.

Just go to the bosch automotive site and plug in your car data and the. Use the name and item number in the search engines

I priced tischer for brake parts today,

$412 for pads rotors and sensors for 328i front and rear. Not too bad of a DIY.

All BMW Genuine too

So 6 months later my AC went out so I decided I would go in and have that fixed (under warranty) and get my brakes done. Apparently the deal online is gone now though and they said it was a mistake!

I got a quote from an Indy in Houston and they said $200 for labor, $450 for parts, and they require a brake flush which is $250 (sounds ridiculous). So a total of $900 at the Indy, WOW.

Is a brake flush required? I really just need a garage and tools..dealing with brakes scares me though.
