oem rft lifespan?

how long should oem runflats last for? i'm leasing for 36k/3yr and i'm trying to factor in the cost of the runflats (seems to be more expensive than regular tires).. if i need to replace the tires atleast once, i may just get the 17in rims, use them for the winters, and buy 18 aftermarkets for the summer.. hopefully if i sell them off at end of lease, it'll be cheaper than replacing oem rtf's.. thoughts?

had to replace mine after 14k because i wanted new ones for the recall and they gave me new ones. but if you dont drive hard they could potentially last for about 17-8k. so just one replacement should do it. look on tirerack for some good deals

I have the 17" rims and rotated mine, after 22k miles I probably have another 10k left. I guess you will end up replacing at least once and probably twice if you have sport since the rears go fairly quick.

RFT don't last very long. it also depends on how you drive the car. if you like to drive rigorous and fast, your likely to replace them very quickly. also if u get a punctured tire, your RFT is done!

thanks for the replies.. i probably will just buy a set of aftermarket 18's and use them for the summer.. hopefully i won't have to replace the oem 17s with just winter use..

anyone carry around a full spare in the trunk? don't know if buying a donut is worth it..

I just traded in my '07 E92 with the original tires on it--I had just over 19K on them. They were the staggered ZSP setup--and they were SHOT. I probably should have replaced them around 17-18K, as someone mentioned before. That's one of the bad things about a staggered setup--no rotation possible. Gonna wear those puppies out more quickly.....

I would agree with what everyone is saying. Usually you should be able to get 20-30k out of those tires, depending on driving habits.

I guess it also depends on whether they are all-season vs summer tires. Summer tire compounds are softer and tend to wear faster but the faster wear can be attributable to that they are driven harder.

Last thing I will add is it's also a function of how much road noise you are willing to live with. I'm surprised at some people's definition of "60% tread left" when buying used cars and/or rim/tire pkgs.

About 16K now, still decent tread but road noise increasing.

I'm putting the snow's on my OEM's, and saving the runfarts for turn-in. I have a set of 19" 220's on the way for summer.

I'm keeping a close eye on my tires now. I'm at ~13.5K miles and they're starting to look worn. I'm paying most attention on the rears.

After 14k mi, my rear RFTs (sport package) were at 5/32nds. Replaced them all w/General UHPs and plan on putting the RFTs back on @ lease end.

smartest thing to do as mentioned above, putting on snows or allseason and letting my runflats marinate until lease end..

keep an eye on the classifieds for a used set of OEM RFT's..you should be able to get a set for cheap and store them until the car goes back.

Does the E90 stock wheel accept a regular non RFT without problems?

I just replaced the rear RFTs on my 330 last week @ about 26,500 miles (definitely mixed driving). The fronts surprisingly, still have about 5000 miles left on them, according to the tread gauge.

I don't understand why the rear tires are wearing out faster?
And the dealer also replaced the rear brakes before the front brakes? Strange.....

Are you kidding or is this a serious question? If it's serious, it sounds like you like to step on the gas, occasionally spinning the rear tires and activating the rear brakes for traction control.
