I believe the 45 minute estimate came from the original bulletin--anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong here...

Installation on version 1: software only - can be as little as 45 minutes per BMW; however this depends on the current software level of the vehicle.
Installation on version 2: software + additional cooling components - approx 3.5 hours to install per the bulletin; this does not include the time spent programming/coding. We have both versions on special here - $575 shipped for version 1, and $1199.00 + shipping/handling for version 2. We include the additional required parts (airduct kit, hardware, etc.) at no extra charge with our version 2 kits.

If I was in that boat. I would just make an appointent with the dealer to have my car upgraded to the newest firmware (for free, OBVIOUSLY, assuming my car is under new car warranty still) and then take it back at another date to install this tune, assuring it should take 45 mins and no more.

I just had this done. Two thoughts:
1. With my BMWCCA discount the software cost me $479.20, which I thought was pretty good. I asked for a quote on labor and they said 2 hrs. I responded that I thought that was excessive for a software reflash and I was told by my SA that she would work on getting the labor down. When I picked up the car, I was charged for 2 hrs of labor at $130 per. My software was last updated less than a year ago when my car shit the bed on the highway. I am interested in hearing what the labor charges were for others who have had this done. If there are several reports of others having this done at less than two hours I might raise this with the dealer. If 2 hours is standard, so be it (even though I think it's suspect). 2. The performance gains are solid, especially on the highway. Pulling at highway speeds was remarkable stronger. Hitting the gas on the highway entrance ramp in 3rd gear at about 4k rpms was a lot faster. Not sure if I noticed better acceleration around town, but I also agree with others who have said that the torque band is smoothed out. My car is also running smoother and quieter (less of a mechanical racket coming from the engine bay at idle). Not sure if that's related. Overall: If it weren't for the exorbitant labor fee this would be a good deal. As is, I'm pleased, especially when pulling into the left lane on the highway! |

dealer just called me back. he acknowledged that the bulletin indicated a 45 minute install time, but was told by the manager than it cannot be done in that time. he quoted a 2 hour install time of $320 ($160/hr.).

Just spoke with BMW Canada:
1. They are not honouring the $599 discounted price on the Stage 1 software flash (US Only) 2. They have not heard of any cases or complaints of decreased power or loss of power coming from the result of the HPFP recall where the DME is being updated. Unbelievable if you ask me... |

There have been a few requests for someone to post the bulletin. Anyone have it, or at least a link to it? If I had this in hand I would gladly go back to the dealer and question their use of time.

I think that's based on the BMWUSA website. That's definitely something to take to the dealer and say look shouldn't be more than 779.40 (plus tax)
