High mileage 335i question
Hey everyone just joined today making my first thread..
I've been a lurker on the forums and gathering info. I've settled on an e90 335i preferably an LCI n54.. Now I have found an 2009 alpine white 335i has every option I would like Price: Dealer is asking 26,500 Pros -LCI -saddle brown interior -m-sport package -I drive -m sport 19" rims Cons: 126,000 kms /78,000 miles I haven't called the dealer with an offer nor do I know if there is a third party warranty. Now I am looking to mod the car jb4, intakes downpipe maybe meth yadda yadda... Question is reliability.. This will be a DD.. I understand there FBO cars with 5k miles/kms with problems and cars with 150k miles/kms that are problem free. Also, depends on how the car was driven before My questions are A) worth it's value B) reliability C) will the turbos hold? Should I pull the trigger? |

Get it checked out. At that mileage it might need walnut blasting if it hasn't already had it done.

Well, the dealer price would seem more than fair, which makes me wonder:
http://www.vmrcanada.com/value_menus.../09bm3-es.html According to your info: 27475 wholesale and 30975 retail. Maybe check Carfax, if there was an accident or related repair.Get service records to see if any major components were replaced (turbo, wastegate, HPFP). Fairly high mileage for a 3 year old car ~42,000/per year; hopefully it's highway driven and not used for pizza delivery or real estate showings. If the car is CPO with extended warranty (I think to 160000km), then take it or a spin and maybe get a good buy. Good luck

If the interior smells like pizza then well know it was a pizza delivery car! Aha I kinda figured that the mileage is most likely highway because 42k a year is a lot. There's no way it could be city |

I have an 07 with fbo,jb4, and 107,510 miles on it. Runs like a champ. That much mileage is likely all highway. I wouldnt worry too much.

Thats a good note, considering 07 was the most problematic year? Correct me if im wrong. However, what are your driving characteristics like? Are you the original owner?

Just a data point for you: 9 months ago, I bought a 2008 335xi coupe with 74k miles on it. I'm now at almost 81k with no issues. I don't beat it, but I don't baby it either. I had the service history pulled from my local dealer, and had them do a pre-purchase inspection for me. Mine had had the HPFP done, but had no other issues. I also got an aftermarket warranty on the power train for another 100k miles, just to be safe. Mine is loaded with every option (port, premium, nav, etc) and it's my favorite car I've ever had, so I plan to keep it for a while.

I'd get an indy shop familiar with the 335s to check those turbos. That's about all I can think of. I don't see too many disaster stories out of the 335s like earlier. Seems like most of the problems have been figured out. I'm at 58K now. I've piled on 14K over the past year and its been a lot more reliable than I thought it would be(knock on wood).

Original owner. I've destroyed two clutches, but that's it. The ceramic I use now holds well. I drive my car very aggressively except when highway commuting. I have some wastegate rattle, but never a hpfp issue.
