I haven't parted with your 'twin' yet...
More info for you here, Paul.

It'll be a shame to see the 'twin' go, but good luck with your choice, anyway.

Crikey - sounds pretty bad. The old 4dr was comparitively not that popular either but they did sell quite a few. Perhaps this just a sign of the economic turndown, or just the fact that paying 60k for a 3 series that is then worth 43k 6 months later is turning out to be not that attractive to buyers!

My previous 2002 M3 was only worth 43k after 6 months too, but that seemed quite reasonable when it had listed at 46k.

What a write up - you old romantic you

Interesting reading though and valid points about depreciation. Wonder if after an initial 'big' drop, the depreciation would perhaps even out more. Be one hell of a car for the money second hand if this was the case.

I keep getting 'pushed' to test drive one but I'm not sure TBH. As you said now you've driven one, you appear to be aiming to buy one. It's like once you've 'had' something so good, you don't want to let it go - that would be my dilemma. Life is tough sometimes

I think one of the big killers for depreciation has been lack of SMG replacement, approx 60% of M3 buyers want DCT and it's not available, yet it would appear BMW are trying to meet a full years sales target selling manuals only, pretty stupid...

DCT is listed for june production, july/august delivery so really september onwards, I'm betting residuals will firm up a bit then when they stop making so many manual cars that no one wants.

Sounds like a very logical analysis and I think you may be right

Great review Beauforty I don't even look at my dealer's demo M3 when I go in ('my' salesman is running it so a test drive would be relatively easy) in case I get bitten by a bug that I simply could not afford (yet).
